Where do you go to get your wings now?
« on: February 15, 2011, 02:05:25 AM »
How sad that men/women are going to be made redundant from the Royal Air Force!

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d73b6932-3837-11e0-8257-00144feabdc0.html

I hope this does not affect any Jersey men/women trainee pilots.

More to come then.  Now the Army as well!

Some quotes from the following URL about the emails sent to a serving Army veteren in Afghanistan:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12461211

"The Army has apologised after a reported 38 soldiers learned they were losing their jobs by e-mail." (Heads should roll for this Personnel/Human Resources error.)

"It said the warrant officers included a Royal Tank Regiment veteran who was serving on the front line in Afghanistan."  (How bloody callous can one get.  We all know the Tommy throughout the ages has a hard time when he is kicked out of the services, the MOD themselves know how to put the boot in whilst the poor guy is still serving on the front line.)

"Some 42,000 defence jobs will be cut by 2015 - including 25,000 civilian staff at the MoD, 7,000 in the Army and 5,000 at the Royal Navy as well as the RAF."

I suppose all these redundancies are inevitable due mostly to the way nations war against one another.

No doubt the class of ship discussed in the following URL is responsible for the reduction in personnel within the Army and Navy and the blame cannot be enitrely put on the financial crisis in recent years, although it did not help and probably brought the redundancies forward.

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/building-britains-ultimate-warship/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1

I don't know if anyone else saw this documentary mentioned in the above URL but it portrays future theatres of war will be run from within a computer like a war game played on the computer and the people fighting the war will be manipulating this war game from a consol from the ship.   The captain of the ship boasted that as many as 20 war games can be conducted at the same time and each one in any region of the world.

You've obviously NEVER been invited to one of the Razzard's legendary lunches - where the elite meet to eat!

Solace is often in the bottom of a shared bottle, but by that I do not refer to the "Society Of Local Authority Chief Executives" which Ironically our leader may join when he says he's going to seek "solace". I just wish he'd hurry up!

Regarding wings, well as my Granpa (who flew an Avro Anson in the RFC) used to say "It's just a sign of the Times".
I guess the unfortunate 100 will somewhere get their training completed and probably work for an airline.

Sorry I don't know what you are referring to here.

I guess your Grandpa was a  brave, wise and talented man.  They (the pilots) might be able to afford, at huge expense, to sign on at the infamous Sorbi Flying Club in San Diego

Well maybe he did but I am sure he was just as interested in landing as he was in taking off.
