Looks as though Chinese scientists may be coming over to Jersey to look over our Jersey's - cows that is!

This is a quote from the RJA&HS website:

The Society has been instrumental in the development of the Jersey breed and its success throughout the world and today is responsible for management of the breed in its Island home.

(Looks as though they may have missed China then),

Are the RJA&HS snoozing or are they  more content in being involved in the local best uddered contest?

Cali :)

JERSEY-based Bedell Cristin is opening offices in the British Virgin Islands and Singapore.
The firm had been offering BVI services from Jersey but has launched a new Bedell Cristin BVI partnership which will commence business later this autumn. It will operate from offices in the BVI and Singapore.

This goes to show that keen and hunting stand alone finance based businesses can indeed go out and secure work at no cost to the taxpayer.

One must really ask why is a quango the JFSC  working as a very expensive shop window for Jersey and taxing businesses including estate agents when banks, trust companies and lawyers are more than capable of expanding business themselves.

The JFSC web site is excellent and no doubt the regulatory function is needed and professionally managed. This should be the only purpose of the JFSC.

Can you imagine the UK Greece or Germany trying to sell banks abroad. Governments  function is to put in place a structure to attract business and then encourage and enable business to grow .

The JFSC is not the same as the JFA , one is the regulator the other is the self indulgent, travel bureau for ne'er do wells.

Sorry to be a pain Bachus but I disagree. I no  nothing about JFA, but the JFSC does as I said, regulate and promote as a shop window. They call it development see links below.

Quotes,

Welcome to the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

The Commission is responsible for the regulation, supervision and development of the financial services industry in the Island of Jersey

http://www.jerseyfsc.org/

The latest £100,000 is in addition to £230,000 already allocated to fund Jersey Finance’s third overseas office during 2011. The new money will be used for marketing initiatives aimed at key emerging markets. It will pay for new sections on the Jersey Finance website and the use of local agencies for public relations support on the ground in India and Hong Kong.

The trip has been organised by Jersey Finance and is designed to secure a platform to allow business to be done between the two jurisdictions.

JERSEY Finance has launched a website in Mandarin Chinese to try to boost business in the Far East.
Its creation and content have been co-ordinated by Jersey Finance’s Hong Kong-based regional representative, Zhaoan Li.

You'll notice their Hong Kong website is located in the wrong country:
http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/www.jerseyfinance.hk

Northamptonshire, UK.

Should be in Hong Kong!

BoatyBoy
partially correct insofar as development within the Island is concerned ,although development is a funny word for the wholesale destruction of the Trust Company business and now moving on swiftly to the deconstruction of fund business , which will efectively bankrupt themselves and Jersey as a sideline.
Jersey Finance Limited is the office charged with gladhanding, travelling and luxuriating its way around the World in order to promote the business , that the JFSC is so carefully screwing up.

Bachus

I do not work in the finance industry, I have no doubt that you are right. Several times I have been asked to jump through hoops by a civil ( non job) servant  just to show they have actually made an effort to make an effort, not producing anything of course.

In saying that I have a couple of good friends, who are civil servants and how mind bogglingly pathetic must it be to see the bright younger stars, held back because a useless but been there a long time crony getting the promotion. That is almost as bad as someone who is crap at thier job being moved sideways to another department and becoming your boss.

The only people that produce nothing but cost a fortune are the Government overstaffed pen-pushers of which the good ones are needed the rest give the private sector businesses a hard time

How is Roger Trower doing in his battle to stop estate agents getting ripped off by extra charges levied by JFSC ?

I hope Roger Trower will continue his fight against the asinine requests for Estate Agents to pay fees, to collect KYC, to become another arm of the JFSC's cash cow !
If someone in Jersey can buy a house , he will already have provided KYC (know your client details) to his Bank, to his lawyer, to his accountant ,further more he will have proved his worth by dint of time served in Jersey or special circumstances such as 1ik or J category to both the housing Department and/or the special dept.dealing with rich applicants. This is ,if you will excuse the expression , bullshit in quadruple, which this Island and like most other Countries can no longer afford.
The JFSC , far from being a rightious organisation , has been a self serving Quango ,which whilst there was a purpose 15 years ago , is now like the Unions of old, costing the rest of us money , to pay their pensions for no particular advantage.

I often wonder why we have so many staff at the tax office and social security departments.
Employers now collect income tax and social security payments, and fill in all the returns. How many staff have been laid off from the Tax office since the introduction of ITIS?

Expensive junkets where there appears to be no accountability or figures proving they indeed bring in new business. It also allows certain politicians not to face hard questions in the States. If it is not Jersey Finance its a clutch of politicians and civil servants away on junkets
yet they make hard pressed parents pay for extra music lessons which are over subscribed and bring discipline to youngsters.

China trip to cost Jersey taxpayers £20,000

An official States of Jersey trip to China will cost taxpayers about £20,000, according to the island's treasury minister.
Senator Philip Ozouf said promoting Jersey in China would secure jobs.

The delegation, led by Chief Minister Senator Terry Le Sueur, hope to encourage business links with China.
Senator Ozouf's comments come after some islanders criticised the cost of the trip after Senator Le Sueur described the funding as "irrelevant".

Jersey's chief minister leads delegation to China

The visit to China will begin in Beijing

A delegation from Jersey is travelling to China to "strengthen business and diplomatic relations".
The delegation, including politicians and finance industry representatives, will be led by Chief Minister Ian Gorst.
During the week-long trip, the delegation will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Hong Kong.

Mr Gorst said it was important that Jersey was properly represented in fast-growing markets such as China.
"This will be a busy visit and I am confident that strengthening business and diplomatic relations with the world's second largest economy will deliver long-term benefits for the Island," he said.

Assistant Chief Minister Sir Philip Bailhache, who is also part of the delegation, said the trip would allow Jersey to show the expertise and high-quality services it had to offer.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-13776526

What is the cost of the latest week long trip, will it be published or just lost in department spending ?

Just noticed this ( link below ) and Jersey has offices, as far as I am aware in Westminster, Dubai, Brussels and Paris and probably more ?

a) What do they actually do ?

b) Do they represent good value for the taxpayer ?

c) If they do ? How do we know who is checking auditing them ?

d) What proven track record can theses offices offer.

e) Are there expense accounts and costs etc, properly audited annually.

The EU MP's are given tax money for offices, but no receipts are needed and there appears little accountability and look what happens ! Are the offices that Jersey runs and finances just an execuse so states members have some where to go on another tax funded jolly ? Looking an expensive set up to me without proof of success for each and everyone of them ? Is it time for the Auditor and Comptroller General to have a look ? Maybe time for Karen McConnel to get involved or is she banned from choosing where she looks and what she works on after the Innovation Fund bombshell ?

Express:

Hundreds of MEPs are not using the £3,783 handed to them by the European Union " every month " to fund an office in their own country for the nine weeks of external Brussels work a year they are meant to carry out, The MEPs Project found.

A total of 249 offices out of the potential 748 do not exist or could not be found.
