Senator Le Sueur thinks Jersey could cope with 100,000 people
« on: February 09, 2009, 05:35:09 PM »
JERSEY could cope with a population of 100,000, Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur has said.

Story:
http://www.thisisjersey.com/2009/02/09/population-we-could-cope-with-100000/

Well, we could cope with a population of 1 million, with enough homes and services.  So, he's stating the blatantly obvious!

The real question is why would we want to increase the population, other than to feed the pensions and salaries of Civil Servants?

"JERSEY could cope with a population of 100,000, say the Dandara and Harcourt chiefs using  Minister Terry Le Sueur as a mouthpiece"

I heard that last year Frank Walker and his gang bandied the figure of max 130.000 about. If you would ask Ozouf he would probably double it. ( He's never been good with figures ) They all live in their luxury country homes while the townies don't even have the promised town park. When the 100.000 is reached in a couple of years another chief will increase it. Never mind the quality of life, It's quantity that counts !
Put them all in rabbit boxes in St Helier
Fortunately the recession will soon put a stop to all this nonsense

The States of Jersey are failing on health care, care of the elderly, care of children in custody, care of our infrastructure (roads falling to bits), care of our travel links (operators abandoning routes), care of town residents (still no park), care of tourism (continues in to demise), and care of the environment.

Yet, they think they should taken on an even larger population!

I would have thought that realistically the population is already around the 100K mark.

If you take the published figures from 2001 - 2007 the population they claim increased by just over 3600, I think last year it was said that the Polish community over here was around 10,000 which have all arrived during that time and all the other people that have come to the Island and been born during that time, I can't see that there's been that many deaths and people leaving the Island :-\

Over crowded prison, over stretched civil servants, unemployment looking to increase dramatically before it gets better.  None of that matters to this man.

Why are these ridiculous old fuddy-duddies running this island?  Why is this nonsense a headline?  What other crap is getting swept under the carpet while we're duped into debating this?

I believe it was a misprint and Terry was referring to the £140.000 stabilisation fund "vanishing" He has done a recalculation and Jersey could cope with 100.000 pounds
Or perhaps he meant to say : The Council of Ministers could cope with 100.000 pounds for the next three month travel and consultant expenses
Did he mean 100.000 building workers for the waterfront ?
I think we might to ask him : Terence, are you reading us ???
