Drilling for Oil - in the Arctic
« on: May 20, 2015, 12:22:49 AM »
Members will know that I am not a green tree hugger, or stroke the cat type of person. However I do have a broad love of nature and its wonderful diversity, colours and creatures.

I realised a long time ago that without the earth being respected and kept in a good  shape we as a the human race will lose everything, including a meaningful future for the next generation and beyond.

Then I read that the Americans' have just given a licence to Shell Oil to sink a well, using a platform in the Arctic. Not good, not good at all in fact very scary, imagine an oil spill amongst the ice, sea and snow in this most natural of the worlds places.

What is appalling is also how little the media have informed the people, after all only 6,957,359 people have signed a petition, and Greenpeace have staged their own protest by clambering aboard the oil drilling platform as it is being towed to the Arctic.

Personally I don't like the cold, nor would I relish the idea of a collection of venomous snakes living in tanks in the lounge.

However this American / Shell deal is commercialism at its worst, in the hunt for profits while screwing the Arctic with all the asociated risks. There are safer places in the world to drill.

Maybe you have similar views and would not object to signing The petition and joining the millions who don't want the Earth raped.

Quote:

At least 200 Seattle environmental protesters blocked the entrance to a terminal in Seattleā€™s port on Monday where a massive Royal Dutch Shell drill rig is temporarily resting on its way to explore for oil in Alaska this summer.

The 400ft long, 355ft tall Shell rig, named Polar Pioneer, has witnessed at least three staged environmental protests since it arrived in the port of Seattle on Thursday afternoon.

This is what the world will probably look like after 8 years of Donald bloody Trump's climate change denying policies...

One rich fat cat will do very nicely out of it while the rest of us will have suffocated from the pollution!
