Ben Queree, political correspondent for the JEP reports that we are soon to be advised of the results of a report prepared by THE FISCAL POLICY PANEL the remit given to the panel - Mr Q advises readers was as follows
'.....examine the strength of Jersey's economy and financial forecasts and whether the stabilisation fund should be spent or increased.........'
The Fiscal Policy Panel were set up to advise the Council of Ministers on economic policy and came to the island in July to speak to busines leaders and trade unions.
Joly Dixon ( google him ) is qouted as saying.
'The use of an independant panel of professional and experienced economists to advise on fiscal policy in this way is a unique arrangement to our knowledge, and represents an innovative approach to informed decision making. The advice on fiscal policy in our report is AIMED at helping to create the conditions for long term growth and stability in the economy'.
Hmm ..........so we have a Panel to advise the council of ministers, an innovative approach...............I don't think so!
Innovative ...mmm did'nt Maggie Thatcher have a panel of economists, woops that was a party political system, not independant like Jersey, my mistake!
I can however prempt the findings ......
Walker et al are hell bent on a strategy of growth and this report (commissioned by COM ) will merely reinforce that they got everything well on track ( pats on the back all round boys) ....troubled waters ahead because of global infuences however Jersey will ride the storm valiantly.blah blah.........
