It was funny and at times very well written observational humour. I lament its immediate closure after the elections. Was it libellous? I don't think so. Did they bully Starvos off the scene? What happened there? My favourite post was the ficticious email written from the CM to a desperate Mike Vibert days before his election disaster. Tears of laughter rolled down my cheeks as I read it again and again. Seems there is little room for political humour in our local cyber space these days. Is it that nobody dare take the risk? If so that sad.

I know the writer annoyed a few people hence they found out his details, but I just wonder where some of these mavericks are these days?  But then again are they still around?

Local to who? Try these (http://www.brightonbloggers.com/blogs/) and wonder why Jersey is so fricking boring. It's what happens when you live with a closed-down political culture and a bourgeois media (c. Dave Spart).

What do you count as "boring?" It is very subjective.

I find football boring, as most of my friends do, but I am aware that for some people, it is of great interest.

If you mean that most local blogs concentrate on a narrow range of political subjects, which you find boring, and you'd like to see some more diverse blogs, in terms of culture and politics, that's meaningful.

If you go to my blog, most of the local blogs are listed (with snapshops) on the right hand side, so you can see (1) something of the content (2) when there was a last posting.

Just google "Tony's Musings".

Tony,

I find your blog postings fascinating and well researched. I meant that there appears to be a very narrow political focus to the majority of Jersey blogs which becomes monotonous - they are all interesting enough in their own way. It's something that has always bothered me and says something about the political culture in Jersey that so much attention is devoted to it.

If Jersey was well-governed and ran smoothly, maybe bloggers would find something else to blog about?

Another blog I miss is A Holiday in the Sun, just to think he was a mod on here for a while until he didn't tow the line :(

There are quite a few environmentalist blogs locally - I've just added a new one to my "sidelist" of blogs, and they often provide not just local perspectives but global ones as well.

I suppose the alternate area is Facebook for events and shorter comments on more general local matters - a beautiful sunset, Grassroots festival, Oddsocks, etc. - that allows people short one-line comments on anything, photos etc.

It's a quicker medium really than blogs, where people have to think about what they want to say, and compose the blog (even if they are cut/pasting some material).

Notably most politicians with blogs have put some interesting stuff there, but then nothing is posted for ages; they have other things to do with their time. For example, Simon Crowcroft had some good stuff on Parish matters but then it just was left alone.

And it does require some time, and thought, if one is going to be saying something different, not repeating, and being varied. But there is some variation even in the more political blogs, which is the way I'd like to nudge them - Voice had an interview with a lady on housing, and has recently posted on the lack of toilets in BHS (despite having a food area).

Yes, View from the West and some of the other blogs are good. There's not much diversity though. Would be good to have some fishing blogs. Or a blog about newts.

As I say, it requires a certain dedication to keep a blog alive - for instance:

http://logridersjerseysurf.blogspot.com/

Interesting, but last post back in 2008

However, more recently there is

http://seapaddleruk.blogspot.com/

(July 2010 entries)

That's as close to the sea that I can find!
