I have found Mr Le Marquand to be very professional in his position as magistrate.
He has never sided with the police,(be they professional or amateur), in any case I have been involved with.

He seems like a pretty fair man, and good luck to him.

He does look a bit too much like Mr Bean though to be taken seriously by the general public.

I was up in court with him during the late 80's.  He looked down at you with a goblin head.  Gets my vote though.

Maybe people are foregetting that this is a judge who probably put many people away in his time and made decisions that upset many families.  So there won't be many votes coming from some areas.

I don't think that lawbreakers in general are bothered to vote, so it would only be a minority. Those that have been effected by the same lawbreakers ARE going to vote for him and they will also have friends and family, so its a bit of swings and roundabouts. I would expect that non law breakers are more likely to vote?

I would not discount him at all, in fact I would probably say he is the strongest candidate that I have heard of so far putting their name forward, the existing politicians have shown that they are not able to deliver (otherwise they would not be able to dust off their last manifesto for this year  :-X ) and so far I have only heard of one standing is St Clement.

More will show in the coming months, but so far, he is the most voteworthy.

He is actually really funny in real life. Especially when he does his "custard trick", at parties.

King Rollo asked who owns the JEP

As part of the Guiton Group. the Jersey Evening Post and its sister newspaper in Guernsey, the Guernsey Press and Star, were taken over by the Wolverhampton based Claverley Group in 2004.

Claverley, a privately owned group with interests in publishing, retailing, printing and computer systems, was already firmly established as a major Guiton shareholder when the JEP's founding family decided to relinquish control of the newspaper after 113 years.

It seems like Boris Johnson has similar ideas to Mr Le Marquand:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article4446161.ece

Quote
“Londoners in four years’ time are going to hold me to account for crime, for the safety of their streets. They’re going to hold me to account for whether buses feel safer again and whether the Tubes feel safer again and whether we’ve done anything to tackle knife crime.

“In those circumstances, I think it’s only right that there should be a considerable measure of democratic control and accountability for the police chief.”

Well hardly surprising is it that Boris and Senator Elect Ian Le Marquand sing from the same hymm book!

At least the electorate for Lord Mayor of London were able to choose between candidates that had clear political agendas unlike the Jersey electorate who are presented with a manifesto not worth the paper its written on, needless to say that is my PERSONAL opinion!

I don't think he would create a nanny state, this guy does work on fairness and I think that he should be given the same amount of chance as any newcomer to the states. Judge or otherwise, it is only correct that we wait to see the manifesto before casting judgement ourselves.

I think Ian Le Marquand has always been pretty fair in his position as Magistrate. I do,however, have reservations about his links to religeous cult, "Alpha". The modern day ,"Moonies".

I won't be voting for him.  He has hardly had a tough time during his career of £100K plus a year.

What prejudice!

Are you saying that people who earn higher sums of money are incapable of seeing the big picture, or of fairness? If anything, Le Marquand, bearing in mind his previous position, has more experience of the various social problems we have in this Island than most.

I would like to see some more lower/middle class people getting into politics.  Not more people that have never had to worry about debt or where the next meal comes from or even if they can afford their mortgage this month.

Ian Le Marquand does not come anywhere near that class of person or could have ever possibly been in that situation.

We could do with more people that have actually tasted the real downsides of living in Jersey.

If that makes sense?
