Current ADSL Speeds are dropping.
« on: January 24, 2008, 10:04:33 PM »
I don't know about you, but the last couple of months have seen a real downturn in the ADSL service and speed offered by our providers (who are all having to use JT anyway) one day last week I received speeds less than a dial up modem.

Go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and check your speed against the server in Maidenhead and see if you are receiving 2042kbs download and 330kbs upload, I bet you will be surprised by your results.

If enough people use this service they will add Jersey to their "places" and you will be able to see average speeds by provider. So go on, test yourself and tell us what you get.

Heres a good day for mine...

If you were indeed getting slower speeds than dial up (maybe a small exaggeration), that would be against the T&C's of your ISP providing you a service.

But yeah, it has for me, had to go business to get back to normal speeds :/

my slowest reported speed was 45kb (which I believe is slower than a modem). This was with no other internet activity running.

The only thing I can put it down to (other than bad service) is that maybe the line is split incorrectly at the point that it comes into the properties and other people are using the same basic link though through their own logon.

Since I moved here till 3 months ago I had excellent connection speeds. Its only recently this has happened, and there have been about 4 new people moving into flats within this complex in that time.

I just got 1761 and 269, in the middle of the day when the net is busy. I'll try it again at 4.15am, when I usually check the net over breakfast.

I am jealous!!! :-\

Do you think this has anything to do with the carphone warehouse guy apparently buying newtel about the same time as my speeds have dropped? Or is it just coincidence?

Still Slow,

I have contacted my ISP with the information.

What is interesting is the PING is really low on mine (which means a basic there and back is fast) just the throughput is throttled somewhere. I would have expected those with a ping over 160ms to be getting slower speeds, but they are attaining a really good speed (in comparison).

CousinBensons speeds are probably the best with such low ping rates, Though I didn't know that going through JT would make Maidenhead 150 miles instead of 50?  :-)
