BIG DAY IN THE STATES TODAY.

The entire Council of Ministers faces a vote of no confidence.

The fall out from the Waterfront fiasco will dominate proceedings.

All ten ministers face a vote of no confidence.

Senator Stuart Syvret thinks they've failed in their leadership and should be removed from office.

Separately Senator Frank Walker is facing a vote of censure.

Deputy Geoff Southern says the Chief Minister misled the house during the debate on the Waterfornt Masterplan.

Also, after it was revealed that the chairman of WEB was also the chairman of a bank who funded the proposed Waterfront developers - Deputy Southern wants its directors and chairman removed.

The Council of Ministers has called some of the criticisms highly personal.

It's asking politicians to consider its record over the last two and a half years not just what happened with the Waterfront.

Ministers say that the majority of policies have had a lot of support from States Members.

It says it's proud of what's been achieved for Jersey. And although mistakes have been made - they've been learnt from.

I cannot see any changes after today myself and personally think this is a waste of precious time.

If they've done nothing wrong, they've nothing to fear.

The problem I have with this myself, is that most of the accusers have done nothing to be judged on at all.

My worry is that the whole debate will be focussed on their recent "High profile", failures (for which they will have well prepared defences), rather than their total incompetence in general.
Watch that space.

"We have made mistakes, and have learned from them.............blah, blah ,blah.......every new system has teething problems............blah,blah,blah................ad infinitum."

I agree with a few of the attacks but most of them sound way OTT by Stuart Syvret.  I was listening to the debate earlier and Stuart was being dis-membered from what I heard.

I have to admit to falling asleep listening to it this afternoon, The problem I see is even if the vote goes against the ministers nothing will change as it'll still be the same senior civil servants making all the decisions.

I lot of the words of support sound like they are comin from either the JDA, Time 4 Change, Lenny Arper's family or ATTAC.  :D

So anyone who want's change must be from one of those groups :-\

Most people I know who want change are normal working people from all industrys who don't belong to or support any group. We don't have party politics over here.

I would think that anyone who was listening to Le Main's rant would support getting rid of the current council of ministers.

So anyone who want's change must be from one of those groups...

But, you see, simple and facile generalisations like that make it so much easier to stigmatize and discount people with whom you disagree...

None of the groups are good enough to take over.

Jersey's Council of Ministers have kept their jobs.

Senator Stuart Syvret was trying to get them 'sacked'. But this afternoon his vote of no confidence failed miserably. Just seven others supported Senator Syvret.

The final vote was 8 in favour, 41 against and 2 abstentions.

Many had expected the debate to last all day, But fewer people than anticipated decided to speak.

The no confidence debate is just one of a number of controversial debates facing members.

You can listen to each of the speeches on the BBC Jersey site.
