The Religious Debate.......
« on: January 31, 2008, 10:34:35 PM »
This topic seems to have been popular on other Forums so lets hear what you think of religion?

Did God make Man or did Man make God?

Is religion a good thing or could it also be described as evil?

There are a lot of questions here, and probably just as many variations of the answers!

Between the chicken and the egg, it was definitely the egg (as it doesn't specify a chicken egg).

God created man or man created god? I believe the second option, but I don't have a problem with those that think it is the first option.

God made man in His own image.  We are the fleshly representations of His holy aura.

The creation of the universe by God would be just as amazing as it happening spontaneously, but with the added complication that you would have to explain how God came to be. Anyway, there is enough random badness in the world to disprove the existence of an all-good, all-powerful and all-knowing God. If he made us in his image, he is not much of a god. The brown-faced angels illustrating Hare Krishna books are a sharp reminder of how Man makes gods in his own image instead.

I think science gives us a more plausible explanation to the beginnings of the universe!

Life on other planets?  Trouble is we will never know the answer to that one unless 'they' ever visit us.

You can argue that there is enough evidence to say life elsewhere must exist simply because why should we be alone in a universe full of billions of galaxies?

But it will be many years yet, (probably hundreds or even thousands of years) before we even get close to developing an engine to propel a space craft even close to the speed of light.

Where does Mohammed come into all this?

And if God made man in his own imagine, was he black, white, Jewish, wearing a turban, etc etc etc etc.

Total nonsense religion.

You mean image?

It doesn't sound right when you look at evolution.  Mind you if you ever read any Jehovah Witness literature like Awake magazine then I guess religion does speak some truth....

(I am not a Jehovahs witness by the way)

"A Church of England bishop has sought police assistance after receiving death threats over an article which claimed Islamist radicals had turned some parts of the country into hostile "no-go areas" for non-Muslims.

The Bishop of Rochester, the Right Reverend Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, said calls had been made to his home in Kent threatening himself and his family.

Kent Police would not say if the bishop had been given police protection, adding it did not comment on matters of personal security.

The Rev Canon Tony Smith, chaplain to the bishop, said police had looked into the calls, and steps had been taken to ensure the bishop's safety.

"We are getting on with life," he added.

The Pakistan-born cleric had written in an article in the Sunday Telegraph last month that non-Muslims found it hard to live and work in these separated communities, comparing the hostility to the intimidation associated with some supporters of far-right political parties.

"There has been a worldwide resurgence of the ideology of Islamic extremism," the bishop had written.

"One of the results of this has been to further alienate the young from the nation in which they were growing up and also to turn already separate communities into "no-go" areas where adherence to this ideology has become a mark of acceptability.

"Those of a different faith or race may find it difficult to live or work there because of hostility to them."

A new Holy War?

God is not always good.  He sometimes enjoys doing bad things.  He hates a lot of people and loves some too.

Archbishop sparks Sharia law row

Leading politicians have distanced themselves from the Archbishop of Canterbury's belief that some Sharia law in the UK seems "unavoidable".

Gordon Brown's spokesman said the prime minister "believes that British laws should be based on British values".

The Tories called the archbishop's remarks "unhelpful" and the Lib Dems said all must abide by the rule of law.

Dr Rowan Williams said the UK had to "face up to the fact" some citizens do not relate to the British legal system.

He said adopting parts of Islamic Sharia law could help social cohesion.

For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.

I think they have tried to do this before?

When in Rome etc.  If we go to any other contry 'we' have to follow their laws so why should Muslim people be special?  Maybe there are too many in the UK now?

An interesting point I read elsehwere on the same debate:

"If you read and believe the publications and information generated by the Office of National Statistics, birth rates in the UK for the Muslim community make the fact that this religion will be predominant in the British Isles not later that the year 2100".
