TREASURY Minister Terry Le Sueur will not waive the GST collected from sales of plastic carrier bags, despite the fact that retailers will donate all the proceeds to charity.
The Senator defended his decision by saying that Jersey had been more generous to charities with exemptions on the new sales tax than many other jurisdictions.
Charities are themselves exempt from the tax and Senator Le Sueur said that their needs were given proper consideration when the arrangements were formulated.
Talk about PR......
Girl at work was changed 5p for a bag today .Lots of shops are doing it ,which is admirable if the money is going to charity ,however she questioned PoundWorld as no sign up to say this .They said no ,it is purely to cover the cost of the bags .
Guess who is going into poundworld tomorrow to ask them about it ??
This is just profiteering on the back of the GST malarky .
Can we get a name and shame board going ?I questioned Mangetout today about their price hikes ,normal reply ,the admin costs .
Need to speak to the head honcho at Mangetout ,as the girls are only repeating what the Boss has told them ,and not really their fault .Can't be pleasant having to deal with complaints all day for probably £5.50 an hour .
