This is OTT do you not think? GST on bags!

TREASURY Minister Terry Le Sueur will not waive the GST collected from sales of plastic carrier bags, despite the fact that retailers will donate all the proceeds to charity.

The Senator defended his decision by saying that Jersey had been more generous to charities with exemptions on the new sales tax than many other jurisdictions.

Charities are themselves exempt from the tax and Senator Le Sueur said that their needs were given proper consideration when the arrangements were formulated.

Talk about PR......

Girl at work was changed 5p for a bag today .Lots of shops  are doing it ,which is admirable if the money is going to charity ,however she questioned PoundWorld as no sign up to say this .They said no ,it is purely to cover the cost of the bags .
Guess who is going into poundworld tomorrow to ask them about it ??
This is just profiteering on the back of the GST malarky .
Can we get a name and shame board going ?I  questioned Mangetout today about their price hikes ,normal reply ,the admin costs .
Need to speak to the head honcho at Mangetout ,as the girls are only repeating what the Boss has told them ,and not really their fault .Can't be pleasant having to deal with complaints all day for probably £5.50 an hour .

We could do.  But we have to be careful of libel here.

Because from my past experience with WhyJersey we did have rival firms actually posting rubbish against each other.

I will discuss with admin and revert as soon as I can Bea.  ;D

Intelligence does not outweigh his pursuit of the greed culture and wasting taxpayers money.
This man is dangerous!

I listened to Talk Back as well and I thought he came across very well.  The anti-Ozouf brigade are going to have a difficult job if they believe people will vote against him.

I am not pro anybody.  It is difficult for me to take sides on this Forum.

Lets wait until the manifestos come out later in the year before making any decisions eh?  ;D

That's utter nonsense. You've shown no difficulty whatsoever in taking sides on this forum, to the extent that you've recently started using phrases of polarisation such as "socialist" and  "anti-Ouzouf brigade" toward people with opinions differing from your own.

That's not a particularly healthy state of affairs. You as Moderator are one of the most visible representatives of the forum, and the forum states a heavy claim on impartiality....you see the emerging conflict?
