Social security to pay for care of elderly ?

SOCIAL security contributions may be increased to pay for the care of Jersey's ageing population.

However, the move would stop the elderly from having to sell their homes to pay for care. Social Security Minister Paul Routier said that his department was considering increasing social security contributions to cover the basic costs involved in long-term residential care. He said: 'In Guernsey people pay social security contributions to cover part of the cost for residential care. Their scheme has been running for the last three or four years. 'We could have a similar scheme in Jersey but the public need to be asked if this is what they want.'

A little bit more from our wage packet.

What will the money generated from GST be used for ?

It doesn't surprise me.  And to top it all you pay income tax on your social security contribution anyhow.

I think this is not going to go down too well, but will remain open until full details are revealed .

I think they should sell their houses, why should people that cannot afford houses pay more social security for people who want to hang onto to the f**king nest eggs?

If they had any sense should sell their homes  before 60, spend as much as they can , give their kids their inheritances in advance ,and sponge of the States like many others have done in their old age.
