Old Odeon to be resurrected by church.
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:10:42 PM »
This is  great use for a sector of the community who no doubt will give a positive new life to a tired and ugly building.

THE former Odeon Cinema is to be sold for £1 million to one of the Island’s largest church groups, who want to make it into a thriving centre ‘at the heart of the community’.

Unconvinced about these 'new 'Hallelujah praise the Lord, clappy happy churches'.

Methinks a lot of brainwashing goes on, and as ageofaquarius so rightly says 'money for God's sake'.

quite cheap , when you think of the footprint of the odeon.
so long as they are self funding and not  delving into the public purse, they can" clap happy" as  much as they want , i may even  go myself to see what they are about.
with  500 members its only £2000 each, cheap for a share of a lump of real estate in town.
does the church pay any tax?

Seems to be a watered-down copy-cat version of what is broadcast on religious U.S. TV channels.

Will the world be saved by a cafe and ball pool?  Somehow, I doubt it.

Probably a nice ego rub for it's leaders.

what i find worrying , is the  end of days type of people in the us , who think if they bring about  , the end , that  the messiah will arrive to save them.
and the " islamaphobes ". who preach that every  muslim  whant 's  to tie a bomb to their child and bomb people .
its not so long ago that  if you did not turn up to church on a sunday  the  honary police , would come to your dwelling to see , why not ( may even see you in the stocks on saturday next week.)
also  the day that islanders left church to march on the  then goverment , who  managed to escape to elizabeth castle . the  other day in the jep there was a photo of a royal visit or event  and the royal square was  packed  with  the army of the day( millita), a large ( per populas) armed police force .
church go 'ers  cast votes when required .

Worrying that there could be a direct line to our current CM though.  How to win friends and influence people....what?  Who?  Moi?  Religious stealth tax on the way?

Wonder how long it will be until ,"The Church", applies for planning permission to install residential units for its devotees? ::)

The freedom church got a bargain, the real estate value must be in excess of £3m, but as we all know planning would not let Le Masurier's pull it down, so they got rid to the only bidder.  There is very little you can do with the place as it stands, so its ideal as a so called church - keep them in the dark and feed them shit, bit like mushrooms.

A load of pious, controlling, tricksters if you ask me.   Look down here at the message I have on the bottom of my posts to find out what you should believe in.

On reflection - sorry I didn't mean that you SHOULD believe in but Could possibly consider the alternatives I meant to say!

I got the police set on me at one church for praying for child abuse victims and persecuted whistleblowers outside the locked door. I also had the vicar at another church try to stop me from praying every Sunday for these same people in the special room for intercession, at intercession time, while everyone else was having tea and coffee.

I wasn't ranting or shouting, just quietly praying, but the vicar didn't like it because other people were seeing me go in every week and wanted to join in when they found out what I was praying about. It was only the vicar, and a man from Fathers for Justice who seemed to have any objection to me praying, and the Fathers for Justice man was one of them caught up in Operation Ore I have since discovered.

David Place has now become the dead end of town during the last year of inconsiderate polluting smells and now grinding of stone noise we have had and still endure to this day as they narrow Gas place road?
they should have built a graveyard instead of a park (prob get more visitors)
I know of four businesses about to close in the area because of all the problems now,
mine is now included as there is no hope if your customers cant park nearby or get £60 bookings by Tony the warden who has an official hiding place to have his bikkies and tea behind the odeon where he parks his car!
and if the god squad move in then they will all have to walk and go play in the fountain
for a quick wash in holy water then convert the local skateboard nutters to come and join them.
