wait till the old cash and carry wharehouse ( next to waitrose ) becomes a soup kitchen and homeless shelter, its lucky that the unemployed have a roof over their heads at the moment.
and it said that jersey is one of the richest places in the world .
Jerry Gosselin:
It is an absolute disgrace that the States and the parishes won't increase the funding for causes like this. They have just given Advocate Rose Colley (unluckily finished 5th in the senatorial election) the job of Chairman of the Consumer Council with a new £10,000 per year salary for a commitment of just 10 hours per week. Previously this salary wasn't paid to the Chairman. There are plenty of people who would (and could) do that job for free, yet they pay a top lawyer to do it for £10k p.a. The budget of the Consumer Council last year was £120,000. How much do the various arts quangos get? How many millions given to Durrell which has nothing to do with saving critically endangered species? How much to the Opera House so that their middle class clientele can have a coffee in comfort after watching their middle class porn show?
I could go on but I'm just too angry.

It is interesting that the Treasure Phillip Ozouf has allowed his department to escape cuts while asking other departments to shed a whole 2% of there budgets........ one has got to laugh.
It is also best practice to cut back when you are spending to much on nice but not needed non -front line staff .
If a wage bill of £345,000,000 per year is not a massive drain on an island 4 miles by 12 miles with a £70,000,000 structural deficit, then I don’t know what is.
Why are the States not following best practice of the UK Government and re-negotiating the pension funds and staffing levels for the public sector. They are quick enough to tell us to tighten our belts, increase GST and work longer plus other measures while the public sector laugh their socks off.
Let us hope the new politicians make some effort to rebalance Jersey with its glaring two tier system. The benefit scroungers and legal wealthy tax evaders on one hand and the squeezed till you bleed working and middle classes.
Maybe the bulk of politicians ( but not all ) are just to wealthy and don’t understand or care about places like the Mens Refuge.
The other explanation might be the extra costs of such places get in the way of the expense accounts and states credit card spending of the higher level civil servants, who organise the many foreign jollies ( many completely unnecessary and over manned ) and smart phones to keep politicians sweet and onside.

Oh yes they are cutting back jobs. They want to cut the salaries of staff at the hospital. i.e HCA, they do a lot of the work that nurses used to do, I believe that they are next in line. Medical secretaries, our big chief wants them to be paid same as UK, which is £8K less. Neither of these are earning huge salaries The top floor is ok thought, but for some reason their salaries are not getting touched. Now I glimpse through tonight's JEP to read that apparently gold handshakes is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!!!!
