When they talk about £60 per month that would be for the top package of 1Gbps - other slower speeds would obviously be cheaper.

The faster you want your connection the more you would pay. The top speed on BT Infinity at the moment is 40MBps.

BT are offering a 100Mbps service to limited areas, for £35 + £10 line rental.

Oh, and it is Mb (mega-bits) rather than MB (mega-bytes).

This is what they're installing, FTTH - Fibre to the home.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTTH_by_country

As you can see, it is already available in many places, including Europe.  Despite JT purporting that they are the first.

I don't think I will be able to afford the money they are asking £60 a month to rent such a facility.

I am not sure what this means to me!

Even if you have a 1 Gbs connection, you would rarely get to use that speed, because few internet servers would have enough bandwidth available.

It would be useful for renting and downloading HD movies, which are large files.  But, you can do that with a slower connection.

By 2016 every home will have. Fibre connects whether they want it or not as they are replacing the copper network. The question will be over what speed you get and that will depend on what you pay.

1Gbps will be about £60 BUT if you don't need that top speed you will be able to get a slower speed for less money. All operators will offer fibre

Ryan you are right in what you are saying but this info has only just surfaced after tell us all homes will be superfast there by giving the impression that everybody would have as it is coming out of our taxes but no, once again the point is that ozouf never gives the full picture so as to be able to spin the amount of money that he is giving out on the project, there by pulling the wool over our eyes just like the £100 note we find out that if we do not go along with him we would lose £50,000.
Can you now see what i am saying?
If he had said we are putting in fibre cables and if you want 1GB of internet then it will cost you £60-70. Maybe it would have not gone through once all the infor was there to see. He only promised the other day to behave himself in the future and as i pointed out he said that just to keep the treasury job.

I think it is likely that you would get a speed increase, on your current tariff.
