Just had a strange conversation with the man from RBS. Shop declined card so checked statement on line and what do you know, it had disappeared!! phoned telephone banking who told me our a/c had been flagged up and put us through to the fraud dept.
The guy justed ummed and urrghed and couldn't tell us why this had happened.  It's our money FFS!  Were told they would activate it again but would not say why this happened, need to know basis, all sounds very odd.  Think its about time I moved my overdraft somewhere else!  pah, weirdos.   ???

Having worked there many years ago I would imagine it was a need to know because the person you spoke to didnt know either. This is my opinion / best guess from having worked with the department you would have spoken to. The flag will have been put on by the UK, the reasons are not available to Jersey straight away, if ever. It is difficult for them because the UK flags things often whereby they in Jersey know that it should not have been, its just down to how fraud in UK is so prevalent that they, UK will flag up things that for Jersey are really insignificant and very unlikely to actually be fraud. I havent worked there for a long time like i said but did do a lot of work with the fraud team there trying to help improve their work flow and believe me they found it as frustrating as you, well maybe not quite but they were under constant pressure remedying the flags being put on Jersey accounts and trying to sort them out before the customers accounts were frozen.

I am not sticking up for RBS just recognising that those people in the fraud department are at the mercy of their UK counterparts so will stick up for them. Wouldn't be surprised if it is any better with another bank when if it comes to the UK deciding fraud policy.

If it had been fraud though I am sure you would have sang their praises but thats pretty obvious. ;)

P.S. Please don't think I am having a go at you, just trying to put some perspective on it and help you and other understand the situation.

man in the street:
did not the whole card system crash, a couple of weeks ago?
not able to get YOUR cash out ?
just wondered how much the banks  made from  the funds not going out for a couple of days ?
as they clutch to  straws , to keep the plates in the air.

thanks for that crappaud, phoned them today and it was like you say, it seems me being busy on amazon had caused red flags, why I cannot fathom, it is after all the festive season and all and sundry are buying online, I don't mind at all them doing what they did, imagine if it had been fraud, I would be so grateful, just would have been polite of them to let us know instead of just pulling the plug!
