Airmiles
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:32:44 AM »
Have a few airmiles left over from the old days of using a certain credit card, and just to let people know, all airmiles will be cancelled at the end of December, and they are also changing their name on the 14 November.

Airmiles must be allocated to any of your travel by the end of December for the new year.

Just as a test to see what I could get, a return to Manchester takes 750 airmiles and an admin. fee of £30 in the middle of January, seems like a reasonable deal to me, although I see no way to give a few more air miles and pay nothing ?

My old airmiles have been multiplied, I can't remember by how much and will be added to the new scheme called Avios.  All one has to do is register the changeover. It should be simple to do so.

The information I have so far.  Sorry I can't give you the website it is one I subscribe to and you would not gain entry as it is passworded!

Quote:

Since news of our move to Avios – we've been listening to your feedback. We know you have questions – and we're here to answer them over the coming weeks.

Are flight fares changing?
Yes – you'll pay airline taxes, fees and surcharges in money from 16 November. Since 2008, fuel prices, airline taxes and other surcharges have continually increased. It's no longer possible for us to offer free fares. Did you know, you'll need fewer Avios for 70% of our destinations (compared to equivalent Airmiles)?

Will there be fewer places to collect?
No – all your favourites are coming with us. You'll collect Avios with Tesco, Lloyds TSB, Shell, Avis and over 200 online retailers via our eStore. So you can collect Airmiles now to spend on Avios rewards from 16 November. And you'll be able to get Avios when you pay money for British Airways or Iberia flights.
Keep an eye on your emails – we'll be sending you offers to boost your Avios balance soon.

Are Zones changing?
Yes – your new Zones will start from your chosen airport, with fares based on the distance you fly. So we're removing the current supplement. If you're a regular collector* flying anywhere in Zones 1-3 with British Airways or Iberia, however, we'll pay the taxes, fees and surcharges for you. You'll just pay the Avios fare and £27 pp return (£34 for premium).

From the last email I received I gleened this info:

What's happening to your Airmiles?
On 16 November, we'll turn all your Airmiles into Avios.

We'll multiply your balance by ten – as we're making similar changes to collecting and spending to become a shared reward currency with British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus.

On 16 November, you can log in to your account to check your updated balance.

Not bad service in my opinion considering the hammering the airlines have had over the past several years.

I am not a frequent traveller but I shop a lot!  Hence the airmiles or Avios as they are now known.

Hope this helps you 'mits'!

Cali :)

If you want to find out more you can login with your airmiles id and password  to this page:

Thanks for that Cali it seems I am a bit out of date but I found this that shows after two years its all gone.

February 16th, 2009

Airmiles have sent a letter to nearly two million customers stating that if they don’t collect any miles in the next six months, their accounts will be closed and all miles previously collected will be lost. Seemingly there’s a clause in the terms and conditions that states accounts can be shut if there’s no activity in a two-year period.

I lost all my airmiles when they done that, I never used them because you could always get a better deal by paying cash for the ticket.

I lost all my airmiles when they done that, I never used them because you could always get a better deal by paying cash for the ticket.

I managed to use airmiles when I went to France for the weekend.  Had a decent deal on a hotel B/B and the flight cost nothing.  Nice weekend that was.  The other time I used airmiles was when I went to the USA and I arranged my own flights so used up airmiles to get me from Jersey to either Gatwick or Heathrow,  I can't remember which now.

I am prepared to actually collect miles or to spend the miles on a regular basis otherwise it is not worth belonging to the scheme.  I can understand the two-year rule.

These days, of course, due to items becoming rather expensive I am not spending as much on my hobbies as I used to, so it may not be worth my while staying in the scheme for much longer, plus the fact that my bank doesn't give good interest rates, so I don't keep much money in banks anymore so they may get a little worried about my ability to pay my credit card back.  But they needn't worry about that I usually always pay it in full at the end of the month and if I forget a get angry with myself because I have the interest to pay then.  But nothing in life is free and if I am stupid enough to forget to pay my card I can't expect to get a loan free of charge.  So I pay up and shut up and make sure it doesn't happen again.  Hasn't happened to me much though - I hate debt.  Look what relying on debt has done to the world at large!

Wish I could afford to pay off my credit card, haven't used it for years though, uni fees come first and as for air miles, couldn't afford to go to Guernsey with the few I have accumulated.
