Fishing limit imposed and agreed with the UK by Guernsey.
« on: November 03, 2011, 03:49:11 PM »

Jersey is a self ruling crown dependency, and the distance to Guernsey is approximately twenty seven miles. I know little of professional fishing practice, however it would seem reasonable for Jersey to also apply for a twelve mile fishing zone. That is when whoever is politically responsible wakes up.

Parts of an article from BBC.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey can legislate fishing within 12 miles of the islands after the UK Government signed a Fisheries Management Agreement (FMA).

It sets out the details of how the Bailiwick intends to licence and regulate fishing activities within the 3-12 nautical mile limit.

The signatories were the States of Alderney, the Sark Chief Pleas, the States of Guernsey and the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Marine Scotland, the Welsh Government and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Northern Ireland.

Jersey could claim the 12 mile limit but all the good fishing ground is in Guersney waters owing to the deep water.

I wondered about that too but CB has explained already about the deeper waters so thanks CB.

What a mess this is, in so called times when Jersey and Guernsey were meant to start working together and we could have set up an all island boundary its a terrible situation for our fishermen if they are not allowed licenses to fish within the boundary. Another thing that this issue has brought to my attention and I dont think i have seen it mentioned is why is it just Jersey and Guernsey that should work together? It should be the whole Channel Islands working together and in this case a boundary set up for all the islands not just Guernsey and it should be an issue brought up by every island.

First they get the Breda and now they get the fishing grounds, great move by them bad move from our dissinterested establishment politician feudal gimps who are interested only in themselves, proven once again in my opinion.

ah, the dissinterrested establishment.
if  jersey fishing  died then jersey harbours could cash in  renting marina spaces to the rich, as no  fishing boats , the fish quay, could be turned into , unafforable housing.
i hope this is not the  case .
and jersey and guernsey   join forces .

Looks as though bona fide fishermen will not have anything to fear if radio reports are correct that Guernsey are going to allow Jersey Fishermen the right to fish in their waters.
