Lies - Spin and corruption in the States of Jersey
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:53:16 PM »
Another good  and well researched Deputy  who is not seeking re-election,  Daniel Wimberly.

Not the sort of guy who stands on a hill banging a drum really or even talks loudly but gives us an opinion that lies and  spin are rife in Jersey’s  Government which points to corruption.

For my own pennies worth - is not the term spin  over used and just plain wrong.  Spin is mild to aggressive lying,  not a bit of mild tongue in cheek suggestion. It has no place in an honest and reputable Government.

Quote from  the Deputies new  blog.

Politicians making misleading statements in the House, is kind of different. This was the public being invited by their government to a consultation exercise, working at it all day, and then the conclusion they had come to being changed and appearing in the JEP as something quite different – not what they wanted, but what the organisers had wanted. This was the black art of spin at its absolute worst – the betrayal of the public by their own government.

Is that really how our Chief Minister’s mind works? Or did he read out answers given to him by John Richardson, currently Acting Chief Executive of the States, without checking them ? In which case, is that how John Richardson’s mind works?

Used to spend a lot of time in the Far East over many years - and even married out there. The in-laws were (back in the day) very powerful people (and that covered a multiple of business interests) - could have had  a former PM at our wedding, if we had thanked him - with money! (Missus said "f#ck that!").....so I do have a fairly decent hand on corruption, at all levels.

IMO what makes us (in the West - not simply Jersey) civilised (lol!) is that our corruption is legal (largely). Overseas it tends to be a bit more transparent  ;D and a crime only when the political landscape changes.

In Jersey was never a problem as the money being looted from the Treasury wasn't really ours (I work in the Finance sector - including back to "The good old days"  ;D, so don't mistake me for someone who cares about where the / my money comes from. As long as it is legal is OK with me)......I suspect that as the money flow into Jersey becomes ever harder to acheive (and less of it) that the subject of where the money goes will become ever more important politically.

But time will tell on that.
