How hard can it be to get folk to work a few hours overtime just counting bits of paper?

I,m sure Grafters or Play.com could supply staff at a reasonable rate.

"Each individual Jurat has the final say over how they handle the election on the night - some have decided to just count votes for either Deputy or Constable (if they have both) and do Senators the next day - although that could all still change on the night."

If Ryan is right then they haven't a clue about how to conduct the count on election night.

Someone in the Media needs to bring this to the publics attention and this morning on BBC Jersey would be a good place to start

This is a must watch interview and goes along with what I have been saying about this election. The media need to start having a look at the set up and not just the candidates.

Anybody know what is happening about the count yet?

I think it needs to have a person at each polling station and St.Paul's right now to explain to people that they do not have to vote for the full amount of people on each election sheet. This is away that the establishment get their people into the States.  You will fing that the vestablishment will only use one of their votes if there is only one establishment party person standing in an area so that it is one vote for their person  and none for anybody else, that has been the way that they get their person in.
It needs to be pointed out to as many people as possible you do not have to use all yuor votes.

Instructions for whom one may vote for and the number of either Deputies or Senators one may vote for should be explained clearly and concisely in straightforward English, Jersey French, Good French, Portuguese, Polish and Swahili, on the Ballot Form that one goes into the voting booth with. If this information would be too much for inclusion on a Ballot Form - at least a full explanation should be printed on posters outside and inside of the voting booths at each Polling Station thereby not allowing undue influence from Poll Watchers and administrators.  Hardly rocket science IMHO.

A sort of induction for voters.

It's entirely legitimate to count the votes the day after the polls close, and it happens in many UK constituencies.

Hi Scott, that may be so. I believe that someone should tell the public exactly what's going on as far as the counting of votes is concerned.

How do the UK constituencies do it? Do they leave some boxes, not open any, not count any until it can all be done on the same day.

I believe there will be counting as soon as the polls close

Will pre voting make it easier for the counters and results?

If so then people should be made aware of this and encouraged to pre vote and we can all get an early night.

I am looking forward to a few not getting in.

Rico,

They've got to secure the ballot boxes and keep them under guard overnight, I'd be surprised if they started counting some and then left it until the morning.

But I agree there should be some clarity regarding when the count will take place.

they should get counting and carry on till done , if they are  not up to the job , get some  people who are .
i mho its not a general election as so many have been returned , unopposed, it looks like  bussiness as usual anyway.
as for the uk and their vote counting ,  we are not  the uk, and understand that the aniversary of the battle of hastings (1066) is in october, when the brave  channel islander  followed the duke of normandie into battle.
