Politics is not easy.In making my own choices as who to vote for in recent Election. I looked firstly for those that showed leadership, Sadly lacking in last Goverment's State Members.Having noticed a candidate that stood out previously in a article of the J.E,P. was Senator Ian Gorst.By taking on the islands doctors at the time. He safe guarded the Public in bringing about doctors to take courses in up to date retraining along with other duties e.c.t.Having seen the lacking behind in basic procedures.Later reading his manifesto and hearing him speak at his recent Election.I chose to vote him in on a hunch for this younger candidate I felt showed promise. Can't say that I've been  disappointed when his now seen as Chief Minister. Perhaps being new to the game. He has quickly found his feet. As seen in tonight J.E.P Feb 8th his original ideas in asking the public to come forward  bring up ideas, solutions, and combined effort to now listen to the people.Which was a none stop complaint from the Public.Unheard of with previous Ministers, let alone a Chief Minister.I hope this man continues to lead and be  the breath of fresh air this Island so badly needs, Already a brilliant article appeared in J.E.P Feb 7th. States Should just remove 1,500 Category licences by J. Dix. Rich supplies of information has always been avaiable in this way.
The proof has always been in letters in the J.E.P.  Radio Talk Back e.c,t Even the main column of the J.E.P. once known as Editors Column, last night heading was, So Where Was Planning? critical, pointing to the complete failures in. or to maintain Public infrastructure. The States Assembly with so many new members will surely see the out of control, utter neglect, and destruction shortly of  a beautiful Island,Which has even surpassed anything the Second World did. Elderly people here, were those with the stamina and greater courage to re-built the Island in becoming the Tourist Center. Why don't we  who use Planet Jersey start the Ball rolling By giving our surport, with own Ideas and Contributions to politians who come on here Will see who uses our Ideas,I say Give this Chief Minister a chance. He can't do it all on his own.His come up with the right idea to build up this Island using our help. Like the now Senior Citizens. If they can do it so can we? As its already proved. They once build the island that for the last 20 30yrs everyone else has enjoyed.

Thank you Uni for giving us the older people who worked hard to make Jersey in the past the place to come on holiday and for keeping this Island beautiful until now with the kind of people running it. Most of our hard work is being undone by people who just want to make a quick buck out of this Island and that includes some of the States Members.
It is the establishment party that is letting the Island down and it's people.

Still early days - but Gorst has pleasantly surprised me. Time will tell how that goes.

The problem with being a Politician is to get anything done is that need to spout stuff that enables them to get into power in the first place, and a lot of that involves "Not scaring the horses" (both the electorate and fellow politicians).

We are all capable of having great ideas (see my recent posts!!) - but wishful thinking alone does not acheive results, no matter how loudly (and often) proclaimed. and Politically speaking can often make one appear to move from "man of principle" to "raving looney" (no names  ;D).

FWIW I liked (former) Deputy Voisin (seemed very capable and sensible - probably came from running own business) - but I think the problem was that once inside the States he could see he was in for a lifetime of banging head against wall for very little gain..............and that he had better things to do with his life! and I don't blame him!
