Too little too late for drink and drugs sufferers.
Calimachon:
Too little too late for drugs sufferers. The authorities involved in clamping down on drugs should have been vetted long ago to ensure there were no rogue elements involved in the policing of. I do understand that ensuring that the island was as clean as possible was a difficult task but less difficult that in the UK, as an island, I would think. All down to bribery and corruption maybe the goals are very high in this illegal industry.
As far as drink is concerned the days of cheap drink are over and we are not attracting visitors who love a cheap pint, that is for sure. Somehow alcoholics and those self-medicating because of various psychological illnesses are still managing to get served. Put the onus on the purveyors of drink to ensure their industry is in better order and not causing misery. I don't have any problems with people having a social drink by the way so I am no killjoy. The drinks industry has made enough out of the taxpayer in the past. Time to pay up now and clean Jersey up They should also have to pay for policing in the Liberty Square mile area where most of the pubs are located, especially on days when sports are being watched in the area within the public houses.
Cali ;)
Chevalier Blanc:
Very good point Calimochon.
Let us take the weighbridge area on a weekend and the trouble with the taxis and drunks all around. The pubs etc should pay the wages for the security men looking after the taxis also pay for the police that have to patrol the area.
How many times have you seen drunk people falling out of a pub etc, that is the landlord's fault for serving them so they should have to pay the price for allowing this to go on. The entertainment industry must be made accountable for their actions.
Also the hospital should charge for treating drunks. How about if the police arrested every drunk person and sent them to court to be fined will that not have an effect on people for the future when they go out on the booze.
Football matches in England the clubs pay for the police.
Time to clean up the drink industry and make them pay.
Calimachon:
Glad you agree CB. I must say I am rather pleased that we don't have a Casino because I could see a few years down the line a big headline saying money is needed to save the loose cannon gamblers as well.
A little foresight goes a long way in Government, politicians please note and don't cause problems for the future by voting for something that may turn nasty in the end - no matter how much money can be achieved by there will always be a downside unless stringent measures are put in place to avoid tragedy.
I am not against gambling either I have a punt on the Grand National ;D then walk away for another year.
danrok:
I think there was far less control, and more drunkeness, back in say the 1980s.
But, the population has increased since then, and drinking is now mostly concentrated in one part of town, with nowhere near as much drinking out of town - and all the drunk driving that went with that.
So, it may seem worse.
!CaveMan:
I think The Customs & Impot are to busy stupidly checking our parcels for underpaid few quids worth of GST duty and not doing the important stuff to find the drugs that are getting in our island that causes all the trouble.
you can make your own distilling gear Quite easily with a bit of copper tubing, a water supply and a heating element to brew your own 80 % Vodka from spuds, that customs never check on or know about.
