Well - not a lot of takers on this one, so (and I had to rack my brains), the French patisserie in Charing Cross. A small shop with the most wonderful array of cakes and bread, sensible prices (compared with other bakeries) and friendly staff and a happy boss!

Sorry can't remember its correct name.

Yum! Yum!

The butchers at Gorey, and also the Fruit and Veg, nothing special but the goods are fine and reasonable, and very good and pleasant service, something many other shops lack.
I could also add the guys that run the fuel pumps on Gorey pier.

Not often this forum has a positive thread, so there may not be many takers.

And whilst in Gorey eat lunch at Feast on the pier. The service is of a very high standard, and even if on the very odd occasion the food does not quite come up to scratch they fall over themselves to apologise and replace it without a fuss. Child friendly too so I'd give it 8/10.

J.F.T.U.

Popped in there today to buy a chemical sprayer, back-pack thingy.
They showed me two models. One at £42.00 and another at over £100.
I only need it for a few weeks and opted for the cheaper one.
When I got to the check-out, it came up at £78.00.
I told the check-out girl that the other shop assistant had told me it was £42.00.
A discussion ensued between the staff members and it transpired that the last one they had sold, (some time ago), had cost £42.00 but it now cost £78.00.
I wasn,t really that bothered, but , half jokingly said, "Maybe that's why your not selling many".
Between them, the staff decided to let me have it at the old price.
One of the girls even put the, "Build it yourself", contraption together because previous customers had problems following the instructions.

Eleven out of Ten for real customer service.

I bought a spray thing from B&Q and stopped into JFTU towards Sion, to get some H/D type gardening gloves as I new they were a lot cheaper. To my suprise they had exactly the same model and make as I had just purchased from B & Q but a lot cheaper, so I bought it and got a refund from B&Q on my way back to town.

The big ripoff without a doubt is white spirit at B&Q. Four months ago it was around £5.45 for a Lt, then I noticed last month it was £6.47 ish as I had to buy some. It is now over seven pounds.

I much prefer shopping at Andersons but it has to be part of a shopping plan as it is difficult to park in town ( Thanks Constable Crowcroft and others ) and to far to go out to Quennevais for a bit of sandpaper and some spirit. Thier prices are very reasonable though.

Also like the cheery staff at Roberts Garages, Springfield and Bel Royal.
Always remind me to use my account card instead of my bank debit card to maximise discounts.

My car is 27yr s old and I finally decided, to treat it to a new exhaust system. I dont mind the noise it makes, but the carbon monoxide is starting to give me a bit of a sore throat.

Any ways.
I popped down to the local version of , "Kwik-fit", this morning for a quote.
They put the car up on the ramps to have a look.
Sucking air through his teeth, the guy told me what I already suspected. "Its shot to pieces, needs a whole new system".

With my suspicion confirmed, I asked for the elusive, "Fixed price quote".
They couldn,t give me one, but promised to call me later.

I had time to spare this morning, so decided to shop around.
Next stop, CI tyres and Exhausts on the Esplanade.
Once again it was confirmed that the car needed a complete new system, but they couldn,t give me a quote until Monday.
Fair enough. The car is old, and I didn,t expect anyone to have the parts in stock.

Next stop, TAF tyres and exhausts in The Parade.
I simply drove in and told the guy I wanted a quote for a new exhaust system. (No examination required. I,d already decided to go the whole hog).

The guy just looked up the system on his comp, noted a few part Nos and phoned his supplier there and then.

Within 5 minutes of my arrival he had quoted me a fixed price of £400.00 for all parts and labour.
All I had to do was give him a £100 deposit before he could order the parts, (Not standard stock items), and he promised to have the job done within a week.

The local, "Kwik-Fit", called me back this afternoon to tell me that the main parts would cost at least £400 and they might have to supply some more bolts and clamps which would be extra. They couldn,t give me an accurate price for the labour, (£40p/h), until the job was done.

Needless to say, TAF got the contract.

To be fair, I,ll let you know how much CI Tyres and Exhausts quote me, but on this occasion TAF win hands down for their prompt quote of a ,"Fixed Price".

I have used TAF once, and they were very good.  They said it was almost impossible to buy a replacement part for my exhaust, but an exhaust from a similar model could be used.  So, they modified (cut and welded) the exhaust they had while I waited.

Mixture of the two.  I go into town and window shop then purchase on the internet if it is cheaper.

I know no one will believe this,,,,,Sorry if off topic but´I think you should know about this.

The back door lock  on my 15 year old Merck Estate seized so I went to the Airport (You know where) for a quote.

400 to 500 pounds minimum without getting door open and taking a look !!!!!!!! The Foreman said and it would take FOUR WEEKS for spare parts to arrive.
But they did wash the car (Well they did wet the car with clear water)

As I had to go to Germany on business I took my car and  popped into the first garage that could do it on the spot,
I nearly fainted when I was charged 38 € plus 19% VAT to fit a new spring.

There I said that No one would believe me!!!!!!!!!!
Well worth the ferry I thought as I did save on hire car....
