Maybe someone else is just making better cakes, at an affordable price.
Or maybe ordinary folk just cannot afford cake anymore?

and this goverment  would like us to eat cake.
has mr kipling not heard of bacs payments?
quite true cave man , i think there is more to come imho.
where i work we are a bit quite, so ive taken a few days off (unpaid) fill my time with odd jobsround the rental home and will work on tommorows home  for a few days (lots of work but will be free of rent).
the thing that worries me is i will get our own home but have no money for day today living.
you would think at this time of year the employment situation would be better, but it would appear not to be , yet still anybody can arrive here and  get a job.
how big does the  line of unemployed have to be before this goverment says  enough is enough.

Somehow i get the feeling that the establishment want to get rid of all workers on this Island so that it becomes an island only for the very rich and the only workers are to servive this rich bunch. There would still be finance of course and the maintenance people just to look after their homes etc. The island would be free of all unwanted people. Only the services required by the rich would be here.

the rose tinted glass  wearing utopia, lucky for me i am involved in maintenance, and it suport.
my vision of furure jersey , was that the paper pushers were not needed any more as , electronic money slushed thru , and most office  workers had being replaced by a server.
and a handfull  of staff , collected  the odd bit of paper out of the printer , and  made a phone call , or
did something with the bit of paper.
office blocks  were not required anymore  as the servers replaced the desk space, and only one floor was required for people .
the 5 year rule was replaced by the 10 year rule , so nobody came here for work and no longer  appeared on the social housing waiting list .
dandara had left and so did  the work force, localy born  had  good employment, as no one  came here for the lesser jobs , and most low paid locals  lived in states homes , trainning of locals had started at school , so there was a work place for them as they left.
a period of "one child  only " per family( married) was rewarded , and two child familys   were given no extra help, you have to be self funding to have a larger family.
we allready have the alpha  people , the beta,s  and  a good few semi morons .
the odeon , reoppend  so we could go to the feelies , and the liberation  group took over the sale of somma.

I agree with you but is it not illegal to offer and charge extra for next day delivery to people who post on a Friday and have no chance at all of seeing their letter delivered till Monday.

Next day delivery is not what it seems, I have sent letters not priority and they get there the next day, sent priority and it can take 6 days. Why does it cost 37p to post a local letter and only 28p from the UK to Jersey

My only way around the lack of postal services, is to hand deliver our company mail to our  customers,
and im not bothering to open for business on saturdays anymore as its like a bank holiday now with no posties around! we will just go down the beach and have time off aswell till they realise what they have done,
So the J.Post wont be getting  my stamp money,
and more jobs will probably have to go at their offices
talk about shooting your self in the foot
and holding the public to ransom, people still have birthdays on saturdays and expect cards and other important mail!
Rant Over :-)

Technology has just caused a shift in the type of work people do.

Paper is not shunted around as it used to be.  Where did all those dispatch riders in London disappear to?

I see even more paper shuffling.  At the hospital we have a new computerised system that is supposed to eventually be paper free. HUH! can't see it happening anytime soon, but it takes so much longer to do what used to take seconds now takes minutes, it all adds up.  What the new system does do is tracking, so I can see anytime soon a new job advertised for a statistician to analyse all the data.

I think that because computers allow us to do more sophisticated stuff with information, in digital form, that does create more work.

Whether or not, doing more with information really benefits anyone is not always so clear!

Instead of,"Pen-pushing", and ,"Paper-shuffling", better qualified, (and paid), folk have to be employed to input and juggle data.

Fair comment Fritz, but the public purse opens readily for the administration, but snaps shut for the front line staff, i.e doctors and nurses.
