Actually Social Security Minister Ian Gorst  probably did not say Islanders will have to work to until they are 67 because this would be a blatant untruth.

Later retirement will not apply to a substantial amount of employees in the public sector.

In the next few weeks one would hope that Minister Gorst will be starting a root and branch investigation into why the police, fire,  medical, and ambulance service are able to retire at 55, especially when there is so much paperwork to do in these organisations which would be ideal work for an older person.

In case you have an image of an ambulance man / women working hard on a shout  ( which no doubt they do ) be aware that early retirement is also granted to all managers. This is because they work for the same organisation and some managers claimed discrimination which has now been addressed so they also retire at 55.

Is it a case of one rule for us and another for them ?

ISLANDERS will have to work until they are 67 in future, the States decided
 yesterday.

Touche!  BB continue to tell it how it is.  Any chance you could stand at the next election?

They will not be able to draw their old age pension until they are 67. Also they have to pay their stamp to social. You can hop out at the age of 63 at the moment and get a lower pension. Will this apply to when one reaches 65 2 years short of 67?
I also believe that police etc after 55 can do the paper work that non police do at the moment that would cut down on civil servants. To be fair you cannot expect a person over 55 to get into fights on the streets or prison officers trying to restrain a big inmate.
For the record when a civil servant retires early he does not get his works pension until he is 60. So he has to find work somewhere to get money to live and pay his social stamp. This only applies to non uniform. If you go off medical ill then you do get your works pension.

Most likely this will just lead to higher unemployment, and unemployed people claiming benefits.  They will save nothing, but the the States knows nothing about saving money, only wasting it.
