You are probably right Fritz, but it is unlikely that any money given will be enough to exist at Jerseys expensive cost of living prices for someone not getting a weekly full job income.

Immigrant couple work for minimum wage manage to rent basic accommodation.
Survive for five years and pop out, "Locally born", child.
Bring in retired parent from homeland to look after baby, (Cuts out extortionate nursery/child-minding costs and lets grandma see baby), whilst young couple both go to work.
Its happening.

sorry boatboy , the black economy is still alive , and if you can cut a line with a paintbrush , you still can get cash in hand , as you can  couch surf with mates , a roof over the head is not a problem ,  and if you want to tent it , a trip to the swimming pool for a hot shower , is on the cards .
lets not forget a bit of illicit business, to boost the pocket.or suppliment the pitance you get from this goverment , and any excuse not to give it to you along the way.
i did hear of a couple who having worked in jersey and obtaining a jersey pension , were treated as lepers  , by social as they "went abroad too much", personaly i would  i would want to charge some one with false inprisonment as i was being held here in the island , to collect my life line of food  and sustinace , on pain of otherwise  starvation and a dimminished life style.
fritz you are correct about the poping out of a" local born" child , but this is nothing new , as my parents did this 50 years ago , but did it under their own steam , had a home , and a business.
when my father  collected his pension  after being selfemployed , he was spitting feathers , and that was thirty years ago.
i would want to see a visa system .
there are those born here  and  those  who chose the make ahome  here and play the game  and have the vision of how good this place could be  and are sick to stomach with what is going on here.

Survey shows Jersey's economic activity has slumped

The survey by the States Statistics Unit showed the level of business activity in Jersey had fallen

The latest business tendency survey said business activity had risen in the finance sector but other areas slumped.

David Warr, Jersey's Chamber of Commerce President, said it showed the optimism expressed by the treasury minister in the summer had faded.

But the minister Senator Philip Ozouf said he was planning to pump more money into the economy to help Jersey through the continuing recession.

The wheels are coming off. Ozouf's only solution is to throw more money at it. Last time it was Victoria Avenue what next if the recession cuts deeper? The five mile road? Is this guy really competently qualified to make any decisions about the best use of public money?

Nick Palmer makes some interesting points in the lead letter in the JEP tonight but its not online yet.

If you were in any doubt about the parlous state of our society just read through the headline articles on the news homepage.
