Is, "Whistleblowing", really worth the risk in such a small community?

We have already seen what it has done to ,"St. Stuey".

I have recently heard that a local sub-contractor has been , "Black-balled", for raising concerns about H&S on the Incinerator site.
He has employed local labour on the site from, "Day 1". But since he voiced his concerns to the Social Security Department a couple of weeks ago about the lack of adherance to local bye-laws etc. he has not been invited back onto site  to complete the work that he started.

I have recently been physically threatened for highlighting a case which has escalated over 12 months due to the lack of action by civil servants and the greasing of Freddies palm. This is not the first time and it will not be the last I suspect.

"Whistleblowing" only works provided that there are secure mechanisms in place to secure the privacy of the person doing the whistleblowing, and the organisation is not so small or specialised that it is obvious who is doing it.

Some interesting statistics:

A recent review of whistleblowing incidents shows that among the whistleblowers surveyed, 62% lost their jobs, 18% felt that they were harassed or transferred, and 11% had their job responsibilities or salaries reduced. Fifty-one percent of the incidents resulted in external investigations of the companies involved, 37% in management shake-ups, 22% in criminal investigations, and 11% in indictments.

You will always be found out if you whistle blow because the higher management stick like glue together and as the post before mine proves the point with the percentages.

Its not just risky in the workplace.

What about folk in unqualified accommodation, one complaint and they are out.
I know of a proffessional couple who are afraid to complain about the demolition and building work going on around where they live. They know that broken pieces of asbestos are lying around outside their flat, and can only instruct their children to hold their breath when they pass by it.

Unfortunately for them, the developer is also their landlord.

Its totally ridiculous that H&S haven,t done anything about it, even though the site is right next door to the Ambulance station.

That's why Sean Power wants to introduce mandatory standards for all accomodation, not just qualified ones. He knows how hard it is for people to complain, and to have to live with leaks, damp, mould etc.

Why does he have such knowledge?
Did he ever live in a welsh ( sorry a BB of wales origin?) place , has he personally been the subject of leaks?
Mould and damp appear to be part of the territory if you are a States member , perhaps there is a question to be asked of the female members ?

I, me , personally, am also a huge supporter of the Power ! OK we had a minor altercation early doors , but I know where he is coming from , actually quite close to where my Dad came from!
Never mind all that , in my belief , whistle blowers should be rewarded for telling us what is going on . If we can find sufficient whistle blowers who can advise how shite their managers are , how many of their so called staff are on semi permanent sickies , how much their departments waste on futile ,stupid, boring ,repetitive garbage ,every year ,we should pay those people twice the average savings achieved.
I have a great idea , let us advise all the Constables and deputies that in the future , say 2015 , to avoid any problems , they will revert to an honorary basis and if they do not like it they can Foxtrot Oscar!
Now I know that is a lot of savings , but since i cannot copyright the idea , I,ll settle for ,,,,,well ,,,, lets say , subject to negotiation, agreement , blah blah ,, half a million would cover it .
I note PhilOzouf has become a fan of mine !! Last nights paper , almost verbatim of the rantings of Spartacus for the past 2 years ....my these boys are slow on the uptake! Then again we had Southern ,northern western ,which ever the way the wind blows picking up on my previous rantings about the crap,zero ten - 20 means 20.
Why do these fukkers not pay for my input? this is totally against a free market economy, sucking off my hind teat tax wise is bad enough , to vacuum my intellectual property is more than I can bear!! Pricks one and all. Do us a favour , retire , leave the island , or just JOG ON, bunch of festering muppets.
