I want to know if there is a website or alternative where you can type in a mobile phone number and find out who it has come from as there doesnt seem to be any pages in the 2010 JT directory.

I am asking because I placed an add in Jersey Insight and got a response to which I replied, a few days later I got an exact replica of the first text I received, despite me replying. Since then I have received two other texts from the same number, that although slightly different from the first two were again exactly the same as each other. On the latter two I did not respond because it crossed my mind that either its some muppet having a laugh, which is fine (I would have done the same if ten years old) or that if I reply its going to be a premium rate phone number.

If it is possible to put in a phone number and find out where it comes from can someone let me know.

I deleted the add.

Thanks

Dont know if its of any help, but there is software available that can pinpoint where a mobile is calling from,(or a mobile you are calling), to within a 20m radius in Jersey.

I use it to keep tabs on my employees.

Although reverse lookup is pretty difficult now they've removed the mobile section from the 2010 directory, you might want to give the 2009 section a try if you haven't recycled it yet.

I had a bit of a saga with the JEP after listing a computer for sale. It was a fairly old model and I needed to shift it fast so I put it on sale for just £25, giving my landline number. As you can imagine I was inundated with calls, for up to eight weeks after the machine had gone on its merry way! I even had to change my answering machine message to say it had gone so that people didn't leave rambling messages.

You're probably wondering why I didn't simply call the JEP and ask them to remove the listing - the answer is I did on the first day but it took ages to get it off the website!

Luckily technology provides a simple solution, if you want to list something for sale again, I would suggest you go to the website http://www.yac.com and ask them for a free personal number. Essentially it allows you to get hold of a free UK 07xx number which automatically reroutes calls to your mobile and/or landline.

The beauty of this is that not only will it block SMS but once the item in question has been sold, you can delete your account and won't ever be stalked again by the unwashed of Jersey.

Hope this helps,

V.

Talking of looking up numbers, sometimes you can google the phone number to find the caller.

Talking of phone directories, My missus went to Tcoms 2 years ago because no one had left us a directory. She was usered to the back of the building and told that the only choice was either Hardback copies, or leatherbound! Astonished, she went for hardback. Asking why these were not readily available to the paying public, she was told that they were kept for States Members and other Knobs only!

Why shouldn't she be treated with the respect that becomes a lady after all?! Incidentally why not leather bound? It could become a collector's item in years to come, whereby we islanders could wax nostalgic about a time that phone numbers were less than 255 digits long...

You'd have to be a knob to get one.

Well surely there's nothing wrong with good breeding? Though of course by Jersey standards this usually denotes one's parents sharing the same gene pool...

Isn't a virgin in St. Ouen defined as a girl who can outrun her own father? Apologies to any long-fingered, pink-skinned* St. Ouennais out there! :-D

* It would seem that many traits of inbreeding are hyphenated. I would also have accepted cross-eyed, web-footed, gammy-legged and near-sighted. :-D
