I do not mind being criticised for my thoughts spartacus but i do mind being insulted. Anybody who disagrees with you becomes a vile person in your eyes. If you disagree with someone than by all means put your point over but in a polite way please.
As for your know who having a stay in England, he has been fighting for years about the waterfront and the incinerate toxic waste getting into the sea water. I know what has been dump on the waterfront site because we had to dump asbestos there from our workshop where we used to use asbestos, that was an order from the Social Security Health & Safety Officers.
Take note how the BBC JEP CTV is reporting things these days quite a different tone to things, where as before it would be put somewhere in the paper etc which they would hope would be missed but now even the new Bailiff is more for giving in the chamber, not protecting the elite so much i have noticed.
The tone of things are changing for the better slowly but they are coming around to the fact that you cannot fool all the people all the time. The boat has been truly rocked and the person who started it? You guessed our man in England. Everything he has said is coming out very slowly bits at a time, they can no longing hide so many things anymore the door has been cracked open and it is slowly opening more each week. The next elections should just about get the government that the people of this island really want. Honest helpful people who care for the island and it's people.

Hi Vlad,

PJ has historically in my view been a myriad of very entertaining banter, mixed with some extremely bright opinions and very searching political queries. Many "truths" which are rumoured get shot down quickly when they have no substance. In general, PJ has in the past been a breath of fresh air as the musings of a number of posters have kept the banter alive.

Of late, there have been a series of single subjects which have dominated PJ. As with a newspaper, if you read the same headline every day, you would probably stop buying the paper as the repitition would become boring. PJ is no different.

I keep referring back to the days of 150+ posters online when the mish-mash was genuinely interesting. Of course we had an up and coming election to assist the leves of interest and conjecture.

I agree with you that PJ could do with some advertising slots, it has always been in my mind to set up a site as a "whistleblowing" site for Jersey, PJ could if it wanted to attract more interest could engage this idea.

Perhaps the Mods are already aware of this though.

Hm, sort of a Jersey Wikileaks? Interesting thought...!

Hi Vlad

I tried that tack with the troll for a VERY long time. It's getting tedious now. Some people don't have the intellect to engage at that level.

Iruka,

Glad to see you're still with us. I'd like to think we're all on here to listen, encourage and persuade. Obviously there may come a point before when we think we're throwing our intellectual pearls before swine but never forget on the forums you will always have your detractors but your posts will also be read by people who will understand and respond positively (if not agree) with what you say.

In my case obviously I have centred my posts around a very contentious issue and one or two posters have been very prolific in their opposition, one even suggested that I should leave PJ (only for several other contributors to suggest that he do the same). That said I've also received a lot of support from you all through your posts and PM's and am happy firstly to find people that agree(!) and also people who can voice their disagreement in a mature way.

I suppose if we want to return to a time where PJ had many more members and there were a variety of topics we have to do all we can to raise our profile and above all, keep contributing!

So you reckon, Vlad, that sticking up for paedophiles, will get more folk to join PJ?

I doubt it very much.

Well, there's nothing like a bit of controversy Fritz, my mother always said if you can't be famous, be infamous! That said, I also 'doubt' you would be able to provide a copy of any post I have made on here wherein I condone child abuse.

No one here has supported paedophiles.

The issues I've been talking about are how to effectively reduce child abuse and how to protect the innocent who are accused of this crime. I noticed that when I wrote to the JEP and listed sources which showed that longer sentences and capital punishment actually exacerbated crime, everyone seemed to agree as I was talking about drug related offences, even though my sources were independent of the type of crime caused.

My point was and is that when the issue of child abuse comes into play, even quite reasonably minded people start foaming at the mouth and start raving on about how much they want to torture everyone who's accused of this crime to death.

It's possible such people believe that they're somehow proving their worth by showing their willingness to castrate or eviscerate others, however it always brings to mind for me the Bard's immortal words: Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much. Perhaps you feel you have more to prove? :-)

Irrespective of the fact that torture and execution are not effective deterrents, my other point was and is that even if we decide that you and your kind are a shining example of profound moral values in your desire to mutilate other people's genitals, you still have failed to address the issue of how we can detect the crime in the first place.

It's an issue which the redneck crowd on here seem to feel is irrelevant. What I've been suggesting is a more proactive (and dare I say aggressive) approach towards educating children in how to respond to situations where they are not comfortable, what actually constitutes a crime and how to report it responsibly. I also suggested much more far ranging methods of gathering intelligence, particularly with regard to electronic surveillance. I know they have the means to do this as I had a hand in the software they use to monitor people's online activity.

I am pleased that people like yourself are on here because they prove my point that some become so worked up when they think about this category of crime, that issues like prevention and justice for those falsely accused are sidelined. Moreover anyone who can keep their head screwed on and come up with some non half-brained measures to help reduce this ongoing problem is apparently siding with the criminals themselves (though once again I notice no one has accused me of taking drugs or supporting drug dealers so far!).

I make no apologies for the fact that I came to Planet Jersey to discuss this issue because I believe it underpins much of what we do in our island. Partly it also has to do with the fact that I was falsely accused of a crime of this nature and it took almost two years to fully clear my name, in ways which would not have been necessary had I been accused of theft or violence for example.

The fact that other posters besides yourself can keep a level head and talk about these issues analytically and sensibly rather than fly off the handle is a testament to them having a measure of intelligence and common sense. I'll leave it to everyone else to decide whether the incitements to torture and murder your fellow rednecks have posted will encourage more people to join the forum, but obviously if everyone was happy with what more prolific posters like yourself were saying, this thread wouldn't have been created in the first place.

... everyone has the right to be offended by something.  But if everyone erased everything that offends them in this world, there would be nothing left to erase and no one left to erase it.

Some guidelines for life:

    * Whining is not socially acceptable behavior, even for 2-year olds.
    * Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... regardless of how stupid it is.
    * Everyone is entitled to be offended by anyone else's opinion.
    * Everyone have as much right to their own opinion as everyone else does to be offended by that opinion.
    * Everyone has as much right to act like as a**hole as everyone else does to treat them like an a**hole.
    * Everyone is entitled to an equal opportunity to say things that make them look stupid and/or ignorant.
      (there is a difference)
    * You don't need to agree with everyone... not everyone will agree with you.
    * You don't need to like everyone... not everyone will like you.
    * The fact that you may feel really, really strongly about your religion/politics/country/pet/etc does not make your opinion of said topic any more right or important than anyone else's.
    * Whining is not socially acceptable behavior, even for 2-year olds.

I hope this will help us all co-exist here.

Made me chuckle. Many posts have expletives with asterisks to avoid getting "rosed".

And as for padding....  So much we could fashion a comfy cell for some people.

No fingers at all. I've done it myself. Most people seem to. The auto sensor is funny. Try it. Type "The F" word in full and it coverts it to "Rose". How sweet.

Good isn't it? Also works with the compound versions of that word - e.g. -ing

I feel I must try other words to see what they translate to.
