Got it all wrong Rico
I think Syvret is a knob , thats true ,but it is his supporters ,acolytes, apostles who treat and refer to him in such messiahic awe who piss me off .He is just another crap politician of which we have loads and loads ,unfortunately he seems hell bent on destroying the economy of this Island and that is my feckin job you are talking about ! For that reason he should do the decent thing , save my job, top himself.

The Backbencher:
I would like us all to discuss other states members so will decline an offer to rant about this man, if it is a man.

Archie Rondel:
I attempted to post this on SS blog yesterday, but no success:

Regarding breach of data protection law, it's worth listening to what MP John Hemming said on the CTV interview   ".....regards the nurse and child abuse cases, ...OBVIOUSLY I can't name the ALLEGED perpetrators...."

Hemming went on this week to name the nurse in the House of Commons when he was enjoying parliamentary privilege. So the point I'm making, which SS of course won't respond to, is that even his big buddy Hemming knew he OBVIOUSLY couldn't name an ALLEGED perp in the media.

If there had been true Parliamentary Privilege in our States Chamber Senator Stuart Syvret  would have been able to name the alleged perpetrator there, the same way as The Rt Hon John Hemming, Birmingham, Yardley  named him in the House of Commons at the Palace of Westminster recently.

I was fortunate enough to have a private conducted tour of The Palace of Westminster given by a man who had worked in UK politics for most of his adult life and he explained the importance of Parliamentary Privilege to our group.  If a member has a grievance he can thrash it out in debate without the worry of being imprisoned for slander and whatever else might befall him.  It is a safety valve and a means of bringing things into the light that may otherwise lay dormant and festering, recognise the inference.  How refreshing it would be to allow a real debate in the House instead of the dumbed down versions we get now where things are hinted at and we hear snide remarks and in jokes coming from all angles.  Parliamentary Privilege has nothing to do with being able to call other members nasty names it is a way of getting important prickly issue into the open which may offend some people and make them cringe but surely it is far better than boxing that skeleton into a cupboard in the cellar and continually checking the lid has not opened and that nothing has fallen out for fear of being found out.  Feel the fear and do it anyway!

If the Parliamentary Privilege aspect of genuine government was not available to Senator Stuart Syvret in Jersey and he did not receive a listening ear from any of our Judiciary, States Members and the like, where was he supposed to go and voice his concerns?  The village pump?  He did the next best thing in his eyes, to get the message across, within citizen media and blogging on the internet and the rest is history. The people, in Jersey and elsewhere, obviously wish to know what he has to say as those that realise it is there read it.
