Simon Friggin Bollard maniac is off his trolly
the street should have a jersey name,
like rename it in Jersey patois  if it messes with the post office similar names
not some other country name????
they should only name new roads with maderian  or polish or whatever people live here names not existing roads
its nuts but I dont care any more...........

I can see that a non-local tracing their family roots in Jersey might become very frustrated if they're looking for James Street in the future.

Anyone know why it was called James Street in the first place?

Well its now called Rue de Funchel and it leads to a dead end. I agree with some comments about 30 votes in favour is hardly representative of the Parish. I also wonder how many people from Madeira actualy vote and even attended last night?

I wonder how many honestly care. It seems a bit patronising to suggest that the Maderian population are suddenly going to love us more because we named a street after their Island's capital.

It seems mainly aimed at pleasing the egos and self-images of right-on locals.

I have been to Funchel and in order to make it authentic like the town they need a Casino, bars  and above all a Brothel. Then it really will give people a taste of the real town.

Would you go to the brothel wearing the old baggy black jogging bottoms and white T shirt combo I saw in you in earlier in the week?  ;D

Sorry spelt it wrong. Bloke I know from here ran a brothel in the town. Wasn't St James bar accused of running one once? I know of an existing Polish one in Jersey at the moment. Just outside of town though. Very popular apparently and discreet.
Don't think it does very well, too many amateurs!

There used to be some very dubious activity in the old royal yacht bar (not the new one).

I would be interested to hear Mr Macleans view on this being as we are meant to be thinking local and buying local!

I see Constable Crowcroft has created a bit of a storm on This is Jersey after accusing some posters of being racist after this name change. I think he should of just not said anything. Even complaints on the radio and views on what is politically correct. Opened up a can of worms here but are people racist that object to the remaining of James Street?
