Goose Green
Chevalier Blanc:
On the BBC web site there are some photos of Goose Green and what has happened with just one down pour of rain. Remember how the States were being told time and time again that building on a marsh is asking for trouble, well here is the result!

stoneface:
I know this development is repeatedly called the "Goose Green Marsh" development - but it is not on the Marsh. These houses were built on fields (not the Marsh) on the opposite side of the perquage.
I do not know what the drainage was like from these fields (there is the perquage stream running down to St Aubin's from Sandybrook between it and the Marsh). Although I would not be surprised if parts of it were reclaimed from the sea at the same time as the Marais de St Pierre (the proper name of the Goose Green Marsh), certainly the upper end is significantly higher than the Marsh, which might suggest the cause of this is simply bad design.
Fritz:
The fact that drainage, (Pumping stations etc to be installed as part of Planning,s remit), hasn,t been completed yet might also have something to do with it.
