4x4,s in Jersey
« on: June 14, 2009, 11:29:01 AM »
I went up to todays event at Sorel Point and was surprised that there were only 20-30 vehicles actually taking part.
What,s happened to the thousands that roam our, "On Road", courses every day? ;D

Well, imagine it. Your four by four got dirty on a weekend of all things. I think many of them their cars behind and decided to cycle to abreast on the cycle track instead.

Most of us 4x4 owners have families to spend Sundays with. Although I did briefly go out on my bicycle, so imacrappaud may not be far wrong!

OK!  What is the problem with people who can afford and want to own a 4x4.  I can't understand it - is it jealousy or some valid pollution problem.

For the record I own a non-descript probably 11 or so year old small car and now the doors are not locking correctly I will finally and unwillingly have to purchase a new car.  As you can see I don't regard a fast, fancy car as a personal status symbol.  I don't expect to be looked down upon because I don't have a fancy car but I sure as eggs don't harbour any personal grudges against those who do!

When will people realise we don't have to fit into neat little boxes with labels on em?

Unfortunately the way i see it is some people are not able to drive them properly and am talking about the mercedes, BMW, Porche 4 x 4's, you now the status symbols driven by snobs who think might is right and they can just take the whole road for themselves. In fact come to think of it its been a long time since I was one of those types being used to "tow" a boat! What just imagine if sand got on the tyres it does not bear contemplating. Not to mention the ones who can barely see over the steering wheel so how on earth they are meant to judge the width of it when they can barely see how close they are to the wall for example on there left.

Sorry, I know theyre not all as bad but I have had too many near misses whereby I have had to come to a standstill because some "I can afford it so why shouldnt i " type ponce cannot judge the width of their latest penis enlargement!

My ex-wife bought a new range rover last year. She finds driving difficult at the best of times - even in a small car. She now spends a lot of time either on the end of, or dishing out, V-signs to fellow road users. When I have been a passenger in her 4 x 4, I feel quite nervous. Strangely, given her elevated position, her spacial awareness of others is greatly reduced. She would never drive off road (wouldn't walk off road actually) and has no boat, farm or dogs. She does have two small children which for safety reasons, when questioned on the wisdom of her choice, she cites as the reason for the purchase. This is, in my opinion, is total horseshit, as she is always down at Martin Fernando's patching up chunks of the car that have banged and scraped.

I do get on well with her and don't wish to discredit her or in any way sound chauvinistic but the only reason she bought this car is to show off to her friends and pose around. That the transparency of her actions does not embarrass her is, I believe, one of the reasons why 4 x 4 drivers get a bad press.

I think instead of pouring scorn on your poor ex , you should advise her that a great many people do have difficulty obtaining a good window cleaning service , a ladder , a bucket and a sponge and she will be forever grateful. When is her birthday?

She was born on the 6th day of the 6th month in 66.

It is fair to say that its probably nearer 1 - i.e very acidic.

Am glad you wrote that Ole Razzy as that is a description of the 4x4 drivers that i do personally not feel should be driving them without at least taking some sort of test to prove they are actually competent to be driving them. I dont dislike them all just the ones that dont realise the difference between driving a car and then moving up to a large 4x4 that they obviously cant handle, and then become a menace.

It is funny though winding them up, I had someone coming towards me about a foot over the line so i drove right next to the line yet still on my side of the road, well you should have seen the look on the drivers face. It was a though I had a right nerve stopping her from using up my side of the road as well, made me laugh. Maybe it was your ex!!

I have nothing against four-by-fours, or their drivers, in principle. What bothers me are those (not all) who clearly do not have the slightest awareness of the size of their vehicles (four by fours or otherwise).

For example, down on the Inner Road, by the playing fields next to St Matthew's Church. There's often traffic parked on the west-bound side of the road, but so long as there are no buses or lorries coming the other way there is still room for traffic to move in both directions. But you always get someone who just sits there, completely ignorant of the fact that they have more than sufficient room to carry on, but they won't.

It's a pet peeve, but is it really asking too much to expect people to understand the dimensions of their vehicle?

I have been saying that for years now how most people cannot handle a 4x4 and a big yes to them driving on the other side of the road and to frightened to overtake as you say when there is a car parked on the side of the road. Coming around corners is another danger you meet when they are cutting the corners off as if they are on a straight road. Yes they should be made to take a test before taking on a 4x4.
