Are those green shoots I see or is it mould?
« on: May 18, 2009, 05:20:22 AM »
Anyone know how to set up a confidence poll?
I am more optimistic today than at any time in the past 18 months that the Worlds' economy has bottomed out.
I am sure you will all be very happy to hear that since I have been a doomer and gloomer for a long time.
I think a monthly poll on the future of the Islands economy in line with the German confidence index or some other such index , would at least give us an opportunity to think about what happens next.

To be able to reduce the wage bill by 25% would require some knowledge of where the overlaps are and how rationalisation might occur. Whilst I agree with it conceptually do you honestly think that there is a politician capable of bringing to bare such dramatic changes?

Strangely enough, although things have improved it would appear that we are still a long way away from full economic recovery, this may well turn out to be the longest depression (i say that instead of recession ,because so many peopleI know are more depressed than reccesed which is a carpenters turn of phrase)
At any rate to lighten the gloom and cheer us all up i suggest you take a look at the following website. It is nothappy listening but at least you might get a laugh out of it.

Because of Mrs.T. England has no longer got the skill that the nation had. Ship building gone to outsiders. You will not find any body who could build a ship in England today let alone many other skills that England lead the way in.
A nation of shop keepers. They should get out of the EU and start to be England again all be it they would have to go outside to get the people to train the workers for the skill jobs first.
Jersey is going the same way.

Don't get me started on Mrs T!

-Privatised railways - and low safety standards as corners are cut
-Privatised water companies - and pollution and badly leaking pipes because it lowers the profits
-Privatised electricity - profits for French investors
-Deregulation of the City - and we know where that led!
-Scaling down the navy, and removing naval cover from the Falklands, and there by sending an obvious signal to Argentina.
-Blind auction on ITV companies - so now all that can be afforded is mostly Reality TV dross.

And don't forget - with an eye on the local scene - she began in a small way by getting rid of free school milk.

And she actually didn't manage to control the economy through monetarist policies, but through being lucky enough to be Prime Minister when North Sea oil was giving lots of dosh to the Chancellor.

Another day , another lack of interest on PJ about anything that actually matters to the vast majority of the island inhabitants.
Back the budget ,says the "think group " which comprises of Chairman ,,,,,,,er ,,, Joly dixon ,,, WhoTFIH? and presumably 2 others who think that backing the budget is a great idea without taking a moment to consider abolishing the fecking stupid 0-10 rules which have caused the problem!
I dont mind PJ members lacking in the information to make sensible calls , but i do mind fecking useless quangoesque twits telling us we need an increase in GST without examining or even attempting to come to terms with the cause of the problem .
At the risk of appearing a one trick pony , I will reiterate for the hard of hearing .........0-10 WAS A FECKING DISASTER WHICH ENABLED BUILDING COMPANIES TO RAPE AND PILLAGE THE ISLAND , WHICH COST THE ISLAND £1OO, MILLION IN LOST REVENUE AND CONTINUES TO DO SO , EVEN THOUGH THE OECD , DO NOT THINK IT IS A COMPLIANT SOLUTION. tHE gOVT .HAS KNOWN THIS FOR 3 YEARS AT LEAST AND YET PRESSES AHEAD WITH THIS RECKLESS GIVING AWAY OF MONEY TO OTHER COUNTRIES.
I note that there is finally a wish within the states to ensure an even footing with foreign owned companies paying zero, financial companies paying 10% and local business paying 20% ,,,,,,,,WHAT PART OF THAT PROGRAMME DID ANYONE EVER CONSIDER TO BE SMART? WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE (TLS) WHY WAS IT ALLOWED? BECAUSE MINESTERIAL GOVT, HAD FINALLY ARRIVED AND IF YOU DISAGREED YOU DID NOT GET THE "BIG JOB".
So TLS having cost the Island thus far a conservative £300 million can retire and hand over the reins to the next incompetent.
It really does make me quite ill to consider the incompetence of our financial elite .
Sorry , rant over.

Things would have been better had the Island not employed an army of civil servants and others involved in quangoes, Many of them condoning and implementing all these ill thought out policies.

nice post sparty, and i have no reason to not agree with you, what i do know as the ordinary joe in the street is that i will pay more and get less .
if i am lucky i will continue with full employment, as posted on other sites (jep) it stated that if you are over 50 ,there's not much on offer.
