Chief Minister visits Madeira

Jersey's Chief Minister is in Madeira this week.

It's an official visit organised to maintain links between the two islands.

The Bailiff has joined Senator Terry Le Sueur on the visit.

It's eleven years since a Friendship Agreement was signed aimed at promoting relations between the two communities.

A number of cultural events and official functions have been planned during their trip.

I have been there before and they have some really good restaurants and the casino is a lot of fun.  There is also a knocking shop in Funchal.

I dont think that we should have to subsidies, "Jollies", for politicians in order to," maintain links ",with an island that has so many residents in Jersey.

Seems like the pair of them have their priorities arse-about-face, off to sunny Madeira for cultural events, whatever those may be, whilst the island is facing a potential black-hole in its finances.

Hopefully, they'll both stay there.

Hold on, why are they over their promoting links between the island and Madeira shouldnt they be spending time doing that here. Afterall, many Madeirans dont come here so why should they be interested whereas there are Madeirans here who would benefit from not being at the butt end of racism, as well as on the other side of the coin those who cant be bothered to integrate. Surely their time would be better spent promoting this over here but then again the weathers not so good here at the moment!

They can have my new neighbour back, he starts work at 4:30 and appears to get a kick out of revving his car with one of those noisy exhausts outside my bedroom window. Why are they so obnoxious in this way? My opposite neighbour also from Maderia is very pleasant and we exchange gifts on a regular basis.

The most hostile racism that I have received was in Lisbon working on a yacht with a German flag, Dutch skipper and a French cook, we received a torrent of abuse from the local tug boat regarding Germany, we were all mystified as to the outburst especially as no Germans were on board.
