MP you said,

Plus the fact that you have savings or investments.

Does that mean a low earner who is very thrifty ( down right tight with money ) who drives a  nine year old car and makes sure that his her family is well provided for but does not go on holiday and saves lets say £16,000 over ten years should not be entitled to the same deal as the family who earn the same but spend it all. Rubbish. Savers should be rewarded. This is not how the Government wants it to be, no money, you do as you are told and provide work for social services and benefit depts.

BB

The boy got his outboard serviced in time for the mackeral. When you gonna catch a bass BB?

So what some of you seem to be saying is that those on low income,
who cannnot claim Income Support but manage to save a little over time (meaning years)
are not allowed to get out of here and are doomed to wage slavery? They are destined to
carry on working 40 to 50 hours a week and cannot ever leave the Island even for a long holiday?

I thought the American civil war had made slavery uneconomical !!!!

Oh sorry this is Jersey isn't it ! Landlords' Paradise.

No its a spongers state and nothing else.

So are you prepared to entertain the idea that the establishment are actually a bunch of tax and spenders? That maybe the purest ideals of democracy, in the american constition,  have been 'made to fit' for reasons that are questionable?

Yes it stinks!!!  I have known people living in States housing and they have said to me "you are mad buying your house, when the States pay for all my repairs and decorating. My heating etc is subsidised i am laughing. Got top of the range car and go on holiday twice a year". Some years later the same man told me i was lucky to have my own house, well i think you can imagine what my answer was. A couple with 3 children the mother lives in a States house the father can stay over night i believe 2 nights per week. Now they are far better off living that way because of the money the mother gets from SS, if they all lived together they would struggle. That cannot be right surely! Something needs to be done!

I know people on income support that go away on holiday all the time.  Remember the fiasco of States Housing some years ago when it turned out that some people on support actually had holiday homes in France and Spain?  Some even had 2 cars.  No its a spongers state and nothing else.

If this bothers you then report them. Simple.

What area of sponging are you into? Posting on PJ during work hours? making the odd personal call from work? sticking a personal letter through the works franking machine? Using a company vehicle during a social call? Taking Biros, paper etc home?? When I worked for HSBCT(J) Ltd these were considered sackable offenses. Let me know if you have ever transgressed any of these and I'll call you a sponger, let me know you haven't and I'll call you a liar.

...Being on the sick with your nerves seems to be the main way to benefits over here...
Hard to know who to blame.  I went to the doctors last year feeling depressed and stressed; but knowing I wasn't 'clinically' depressed, as I knew what things in my life were stressing and depressing me, and pills weren't going to change those things.  I only went to placate friends and family who were worried.  What did the doctor offer, after agreeing with me that the things depressing and stressing me couldn't be changed by any treatment on offer?

Pills and as much time off as I wanted! I didn't ask or want either (well I'd love time off, but it's not in my nature to not work if I'm able to) so I declined the offers.  He said if I changed my mind to call, and he get me time off whenever I wanted!
...Let me know if you have ever transgressed any of these and I'll call you a sponger, let me know you haven't and I'll call you a liar.
Well I've never done any of those things, you gonna call me a liar?
