Jersey Deputy Paul le Claire says he wants to be the island's next Health Minister.

He's announced he plans to challenge for the position recently vacated by Senator Jim Perchard.

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, has nominated Deputy Anne Pryke for the role.

States members will choose the new Health Minister on Tuesday.

I don't know much about him, does he do very much?

I would like to point out that the filthy habit in question is smoking.
Le Claire needs lynching for that act alone.
I like smoking in the open air though and never smoke at home. But I see no problem with having a smoking bar or two around town as they have in lots of other countries which have smoking bans. Smoking in restaurants is disgusting , especially cigars, people with pipes should be shot on sight.

He has an entire eco system involving nicotine and air and is thus at once able to satisfy his cravings and salve his conscience simultaneously.

He's on the "Friends of Havre des Pas" committee and now behind the new free magazine that's replaced 247. Votes establishment generally.

Yes I noticed that. Does strange things when lobbied. Listens, empathises, says he will speak against the perceived establishment position, goes in to the chamber and does just that only to then vote with the establishment. Oddball.

Paul Routier does not want Health however if persuaded, will be useless, you might as well just let Mike Pollard continue unquestioned.  It will not be Mike Higgins simply because he feels he still needs more experience running a large States department. As recent events and long public waiting lists prove, the hospital group at this time is in meltdown due to poor management and greed of the top level of consultants who seem to have written their own (Jersey) contracts.

Paul Le Claire although a genuine nice guy would have a breakdown within six months, you have to understand the questions to answer them, and Simon Crowcroft. He is interesting, because the idea of running his own small business again, when deep recession is splintering slowly Jerseys big strong oak door, has made him a career politician. He is articulate, intelligent and a good speaker. He is also a master of manipulation, He needs votes to stay in the job next time around. Does he have the true heart to sort out years of public spending abuse and doing it the Jersey way,  by the out of control hospital management.

Mrs Pyke the lady also in the frame, and an establishment clone, will do most of what she is told by the civil servants. Take your Pick

Le Claire will struggle to evaluate the information passed to him from various factions - being the only States member (that I am aware of) to have brought up a JEP April Fool article in the House, believing it to be true.
