mpwpj quite a few people stand for senator just to get a feel of the water and experience. Then they stand for deputy with their name already in the publics mind. What i think is wrong is when a sitting senator losers his seat and then gets back in as a deputy. Could also become a minister, you have to be thick skinned to do that and shows just what they really want i.e. power and money.

It was quite apparent at the last senatorial elections that at least 3 stood with motivations other than simply getting elected -they wanted to influence the debate and agenda or raise issues. Just what democracy ordered.

Democracy does not order. What you see in the States is democracy in action, YOU might think that new faces disputing the status quo , is just what YOU ordered, but unfortunately for YOU , people like ME also vote and have been well served in the past 50 years or so.
So I suggest that YOU rethink your "plus ca change" name because the next part of that is "plus ca fait la meme chose."

The three I referred to were those who said in the hustings they would not seek election as deputy, and were true to their word.  They engaged in they democratic process as I described. The observation has nothing to do with the subsequent behaviour of those who were elected.  Without  people of diverse views standing the electorate would have no choice at the polls.  If you want democracy, a choice of candidates and policies would seem to be  a pre-requisite.
Further I would rather you didn't shout at me when telling me my opinion, especially when you are incorrect.

Rather than shouting I am emphasising that You appear to think that Your particular belief in democracy carries more weight than mine, which is blatantly incorrect. What we have in the States is what we voted for, please continue to offer a forward looking , intelligent alternative. From where I sit ,I see Bill Clinton, offering the masses everything they could ever ask for at no cost, and guess what? he won! Fantastic, until someone had to pay the bill, that would be your average American citizen.
What happens when your average tax payer has had enough?
