BBC Radio Jersey Talkback today
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:10:44 AM »
What a shambles. We're only an hour in and I can't bear to listen to any more of Debbie's hesitant "errs" and "ums" while she shuffles through her notes, trying to find what Geoff wants her to say. Clueless. Well done St Helier voters. ::)

Think I'm being harsh? Have a listen.

I totally agree.  If errms and umms were gold coins we could say goodbye to the credit crunch!

On another point:

Paper Rounds?  What a silly reason not to agree to the said convention.  Talk about a sledgehammer to crack a nut this is more like a sewing needle to build a tunnel in a mountain.  Sad!  I am sure they have heard of such a thing as job sharing.

Old Fashioned Jimmy Perchard....never!!!

Sending kids to Grannies!  Ha Ha :)))))))).  Doesn't he realise a lot of grannies are still working to save more for her  and her partner's old age.  Also Mums have to work to help put bread on the table and cloth children too.  It is not only single parent familes who are struggling.

I must be walking in the wrong circles eh?

I know the Jersey accent often gets mistaken for South African but Jimmy has a peculiar accent which I cannot place, a mixture of South African, Australian, Jersey and Birmingham. Is there perhaps such a thing as a farmer's accent ? Does anyone know if has lived abroad for a while or is a fake accent ?
Perhaps it disappears when he whispers and swears ....

Whatever accent it is he spoke waffle and comes over very arrogant. De Sousa should join get togethe with Jeremy M and do some home work or else quit politics and take up knitting.

Perhaps Jimmy would only like the JEP delivered.

That studio was totally sanitized you could almost smell the Jeyes emanating through the sound waves.

Not worth listening to for political debate, much better to listen for comedic content.

Youths on particular courses at Highlands get instruction on how to give or hold interviews and in some cases learn to debate.  Do you think the States could spend a few pounds doing the same for the less able politicians.  Maybe it  should be mandatory.  I suppose nerves will get the better of some but if they prepare themselves by preparing meticulously and practising any possible questions  with answers they will be less inclined to sound or look like blithering idiots.

If they can't think and speak on the hoof they should not be there.

I am slightly going off topic here but when thinking of the calibre of politicians and people's ability to stand up and be counted I was reminded of a bit of recent news. It had emerged that Meals' on Wheels, which is a volunteer service by volunteers and of great help to the elderly, had been asked to pay £1000 GST on the meals by the States Shared Services department ( whoever they are ). They were also told that this would be refunded six months later. The organisation's treasurer Mrs Shenton ( Ben's wife ) was interviewed by the JEP and this is what she was quoted as saying : We are not playing this bureaucratic game as it's a waste of time. She argued that she was originally told that the service would be exempt from the three percent tax and treatened to quit her post
I AM NOT GOING TO START PAYING AND RECLAIMING GST JUST TO KEEP SOME FAT DESK-BOUND CIVIL SERVANT IN A JOB and untertake this role to provide meals on wheels, not to act as an honorary tax collector on behalf of the states

I take my hat off to this lady and was actually going to send her an email to congratuate her as this is the kind of no-nonsense stuff we want to here from our politicans and not this useless whaffle we heard today on Talkback
The waffling politicians are getting paid a fat salary and this lady does it for nothing
The quote in red must be at least the quote of the month !

I agree moot, except that she should just have said "some desk-bound civil servant".

Why?  Have you an objection to the word fat?

Mrs Shenton's criticisms of bureaucracy are valid and to be applauded.

The wastelines of bureaucrats are none of her business.
