PAY AS YOU GO FOR WATER

Islanders moving house will now automatically be put onto a water meter.

Jersey Water's fitting meters at every address where there's a change of account holder.

The policy took effect on the first of January.

Howard Snowden from Jersey Water says it means customers only pay for what they use.

I guess that if you are not on a meter the skys the limit!

If you are not on a meter then your water consumption is based on your rates assessment.

For a family of three - one requiring a lot of washing etc - when we changed to a meter our bill droppoed by around 30%!

What if happened with the JEC that they did not use so much electricity when they asked us to cut down because of the oil shortage years a go, they put the price per unit up because they made less money.Will the Water Co. do the same if the Island users less water? Then being on a meter will be worse.

I'd guess they would have to, there are fixed costs which will stay the same, even if we use less water.

But, they can put the rates up for everyone, not just people on meters.

with the further , construction of more  concrete rabbit hutches, the use of water must be  , at a all time high, it would be interesting to know , that when we were full with tourists in the good old days,  what was our population?
what i am getting at is , in the future , we may see a lack of water.
