Yup so everyone agrees that the elections  are democratic. So that means Jeremy was democratically elected. so why doesn't everyone give him a chance to prove himself.

your just trying to stir trouble where you can Billy. Nobody is going to look at who you voted for, it is a democracy, not Zimbabwe or Nazi Austria. Like Gazza said it is jsut to ensure no irregularities.

In fairness Mystic there is a law which is incorrect and it needs to be changed.

It is more a matter of principle rather than "stirring", I am a little old for those kind of games.

Also are you sure that no one looks at the results?

100% sure??  You would be suprised what can be done these days, believe me.

Tetras you maybe right, no reply yet. I will remind them after xmas as they maybe on hols ;)

I think that a mod should cut these posts to a new thread as it not really to do with Jeremy really.

The Anschluss was not official until the completion of the referendum, And I never said the Nazi's were not synonomous with Germany, I used the undemocratic referendum as an example - To good effect I believe.

It is clear that Jersey elections are secret, and democratic.

There hasnt been an establishment party in power for 60 years. the only elected party is the JDA holding four seats. granted there is a essence of stick to how your chum votes in there at times but that does not constitute party politics. Just because the states vote the wrong way in your opinion doesnt mean there is a political allegience. If you have that big an issue then i suggest oyu go to your local Deputy and tell him.

Oh dear, no.  A party is a group of people acting in concert, in this case elected States members.  You do not have to be a formally constituted political organisation to be a party.   Indeed throughout much of parliamentary history parties in elected assemblies had no formal structure, they simply existed be virtue of the actions of groups of members. They had no constitution, no membership lists, no formal beign at all, but everyone knew who they were and what they stood for.

last time now - JERSEY ELECTIONS ARE SECRET AND DEMOCRATIC.

And if your belief that this "party" has been in power for 60 years then possibly they are wanted - and you are in the minority...? Otherwise surely they wouldn't be elected.

The poor get money back form the government. As a middle class person I find that unfair but i'm not moaning about it, I get on with my life and try to make it as comfortable as possible.

Clearly they are making decisions the Islanders want or they wouldn't get re-elected, clearly your concerns are in the minority.

Obviously they are voters who vote "consistently" and not radically. otherwise they would not get elected. Are you deluded enoguh to think that 60-65% of voters are not consistent "establishment" voters? They would not be getting elected if you were right.

When did i state, "I cyrillem, am happy at being taxed G.S.T"? Stop twisiting things. I said i wasn't happy that i'm not rich enough to not feel taxes, and not poor enough to be able to not pay them.

Well if they are that dissilusioned then they should vote against the current crop or not moan. It is none of the states members fault that some people dont vote. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the majority of Islanders voted.
I am not that bothered that the upper class don't pay as much, granted they should pay more but if they were taxed at 20% then they would surely leave, causing severe detriment to the Island as they still contribute significantly unlike those sponging off the states and indeed every tax payer. However they do need to pay more.

yes, when you don't pay as much then you would be sponging the benefits of the Island, and not it's resources - instead you are contributing towards it.

I believe I just confirmed that. At the end of the day I personally can't do anything about it and have to deal with it. I count myself lucky to be living in Jersey with a comfortable life after visiting Cambodia in the summer and witnissng the poverty in which some are living, real poverty not Jersey poverty I might add. Hopefully one day I will be in a position where I could benefit from paying less taxes. I would use the money to help those less fortunate in places liek Cambodia however and not just abuse the system.

I think they should pay the same in a perfect world. But it is inperfect so it is not pragmatic for them to do so.

If half the raving loonies on here contribute anything collectively, approaching what a single 11k pays i,ll show my ar$% in Burtons window for a week.
Great how those who pay bugger all expect the rest of us to pay more just so we can keep them in free accomodation, free schooling, free medical health, free money, free child allowance, free bloody milk and extra money at xmas just for being alive!!
Bring back the workhouses I say make the buggers work for their "free" money.

The above statement obviously excludes, the poor downtrodden masses who do not have second homes in France, Madeiria, USA or wherever. I exclude also pensioners , children and mad people , the resT of you spongers can get a bloody job!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
