Good assessment Clarry.

So, what do you think about Roy Le H or The Crow as Chief Minister? They might just nick it.

TLS would probably then take off - no way could he deliver their policy - leading to a by-election. Bring it on!

It would take a huge effort on all the centre/ independent / left candidates part but it looks like that if they did get themselves organised they might be able to do it. Just not sure they could stick yet.

The benefit the right have is that they've been at this game for years. It only takes a Sean Power or Paul le Claire to have a brainwave on the day and the Dalek's in for three.

I do think I'm missing somebody however - arn't there 52 in the States?

Yep, you're forgetting Eddie Noel and Ian Le Marquand - who doesn't think anyone is up to the job. This would include TLS.

Correct.

12 Senators
12 Constables
29 deputies

= 53 elected states members

So if we add Le Marquand and this Eddie Noel dude (whoever he is?) to the establishment list the chamber is still looking a whole lot more balanced then before the elections.

Now I still don't think that there's a big enough swing to the centre / left to ensure that Le Sueur gets his wings clipped but there's more then enough articulate new blood in the house to challenge some of the assumed wisdom and arrogance displayed by the previous CoM and maybe even enough to convince some of the more open minded members of the establishment that they needn't always do as they're told.

So who on the establishment list is quite open minded?

Gorst, Ferguson, Pryke perhaps?

If I were The Crow, Roy Le Herrisier, Alan Breckon or even Ian Le Marquand, I would a) consider standing for CM and b) be heavily lobbying the new intake. There is the slimmest chance that TLS could be deposed. One would have to dangle a few promises of Minister/Assistant Minister (that the whole house ultimately has to approve) but it is feasible.

It is said that the advantage of the secret ballot is that nobody knows who voted for who. So, for example, Sarah Ferguson could theoretically tell TLS that she would vote for him.....then deliciously stab him in the back and get the Treasury job herself. Come on Sarah, you know you want to.  ;D

I'm sorry to enter your fray here, but your political naievity is somewhat apparent.
First of all the COM has an pervasion of influence throughout the establishment set up through its simple architecture. Anyone assumed to be malleable as to the wishes of the electorate will be sent to the salt mines.
Secondly, open-mindedness is about as reliable as a brick lane hustler. People like that, I'm sorry, do not exist.

Do you know much more about simple architecture? I would be very keen to know?

You may be right about the ability of a large slice of the States to do anything even remotely like opening their minds (like opening their fridges for example) but lets hope that with this new crop, some of whom have oratory skills that exceed the previous council of ministers combined, that even the most low voltage of the establishment back benches might begin to get an inkling that gung-ho ecomomic growth policies need to be tamed and a raft of new social policies drafted in that can re-connect the people with those that are elected to govern.

PS - We may well have already elected a brick lane hustler. Word is he's very reliable if you know what I mean!

What a day! The establishment / Black and white party must be rocked by this. If Simon and Roy get together there is a real chance for CHANGE. my reckoning is that four of the five deputies who lost their seats had been establishment, replaced by far more middle of the road people. It will need a combined effort, but if they get Alan Brecon on board then we are on the way. Good luck

Your assumption that anything will change is seriously flawed.
The mechanism of good government is a strong and defiant will to passivly control people for their own benefit.
The re-election of Deputy Power is a good example of this. I wish we had the same calibre in St Lawrence.
I do not know who you are trying to point the finger at with your assertion that a hustler has been appointed. My advice to you is that you must be very careful what you post on the Internet before it comes back and bites you.

In the JEP it says he will be the next CM. I think the paper has it right again.
