Independent Deputies
« on: November 16, 2008, 03:12:05 AM »
 My friend and colleague, Kevin Lewis has corrected me on a posting I made in September about those Deputies I regard as Independent. I left Kevin's name out for some reason.

I apologise to Kevin Lewis.

Not sure where your list of independent deputies is Sean. Could you tell me if you were on the list? Also my 2 deputies are looking for re-election they are deputy Ian (GST28) Gorst and deputy Gerard Baudains. Could you tell me if either of these made it on to your indepents list?

Hi,

I will post, in my opinion, my new list of independent colleagues in the States, by Wednesday, the 19th.

I left out Kevin Lewis on my first run through and I have apologised to him and Isabella for such a silly oversight.

Kevin Lewis is a good man and he is a very independent Member.

Sean as it was directly under the question(s) I asked, I'm not sure if you are trying to palm this off as your answer to me? could you please clarify?

Hi,

I consider these to be independent. When I say independent, they vote they way they want, do not consistantly support or are not allied to any political party or the executive:

Senators:  Syvret and Shenton;

Constables: Gray, Crowcroft, Butcher, Le Brun;

Deputies: Grouville, St. Martin, Baudains, Mezbourian, Breckon, Duhamel, Lewis (St. Saviour), Scott-Warren, Le Herissier, Martin (St. Helier), Hilton, Power, Le Claire;

Again, this is my personal view.

Is Breckon not a Senator then?

I would say that there is room for a "grey" area, of establishment types who are not totally uncritical of the establishment. A "soft core" around the "hard core".

Ian Gorst is not totally swayed by the establishment, and has raised important questions regarding the Kathy Bull report, and the failure to implement it to date.

James Perchard, although I disagree with him strongly on a number of matters, has shown surprising independence with respect to Harcourt, and has mentioned coming under pressure (from where?) to tow the party line.

You might remember that this is Sean's personal opinion.  Others might differ.

The Constables still often seem to vote "en block" on matters - e.g. recently against exemptions on GST for food etc- with Simon Crowcroft the one exception.

A conspiracy of Constables?

Sorry, couldn't resist the idea of a collective noun for this practice!

I disagree,

Ken Le Brun, Derek Gray, Simon Crowcroft and Graeme Butcher all vote individually.
