After listening to Mike
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:52:44 PM »
Some good points and obviously with an eye on changing the states (as a number of others are) he will have a very good idea of the finance industry as he has worked at the JFSC and as an ex teacher in financial matters. He comes accross as someone who will not be voting establishment, but he along with other not already in politics will have an uphill struggle to get fair reporting from the JEP and possibly CTV. So far the BBC has remained fair to all, plus Channel 103.

My tuppence to Mike is to speak louder as some of the votes will be won on the strength of voice (which will convey strength of conviction) and he is not coming accross with too much conviction. Yet.

:)  Mike certainly came across as one of the stronger candidates although don't agree with everything he says.  Having had him as a tutor at highlands I know that he is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right.  Also unlike many of the newcomers he appears able to listen and comprehend both sides of an argument.  Will get one of my votes.

I did a survey in the Beano ( yep Raz I pinched one off the neighbour ), the page with all the hopefuls, handwringers and wannabees, pigeons etc etc.

I stuck an X over every statement I didn't like and a circle round each that I did - Hey Presto Mr Airman flies my kite.

Mike you are going to get my Vote.

(ps can you get me a trip on the Vulcan??)

Yeah, Mike, well done. You have to stand in St Helier.

If you don't stand in your home district, please consider standing against Guy Dismay.

I know I lead the "deputies should stand in their own parish" charge and that logically I should extend this to districts....but in the case of Guy Dismay and his insanerator, I make an exception. I note that you do actually live in St Helier, although not St Helier #3.

Hi Mike

I also hope you stand in the deputies. It is very difficult to displace sitting established well known names most of the time. The weight of your votes and your obvious enthusiasm and experiance would suggest a green light should you stand.

The best news is though, when it comes to the vote. it does matter not if your title is deputy or Senator.

??? Cannot understand why Deputies should have to live in their districts when elected as others insist. Why should it matter? The town is not that big, just a hands throw in getting from A to B,My deputy lives the other end of town One phone call, he sees us or we go see him. What we have to say, or problem is more important to us.What if a Deputy has to moves thru unforseen circumstances during his or her term in office?.Are they to ask those that cover their districts for permission to move? COME OFF IT, there's is a lot more pressing political issures then this Surely  ::) :P

I Second boaty boy Mike. Not only to you get the chance to vote against What the establishment throws if its not in the best interest of the people.
Your also able to put your own propositions forward in the States. So whats the big deal in being a Senator. Just a name is'nt it? They appear to both have the same rights in this respect ;)

Mike gave a very interesting and well informed talk last night concerning the recession. I have been very impressed with the way that he has stuck with his election promises. I think we are very lucky to have someone of this calibre in the States. It's just a shame that so few of our present House appear to listen to what he has to say. If we manage to vote in more like him next time, there's hope for Jersey yet!

Listening to Mike Higgins today in the States i believe he spoke an awful lot of sense and yet i am not sure if the majority were with him or against, did not catch the end of the sitting
When listening to him one would like to think that it was the CM talking, i hope that sometime in the future he may stand for the CM job.
