Sorry I'm not doing the deputy thing! I think Nick P has his eye his home parish of St Lawrence, and Cliff will also look to play a home match in St Ouen.

I may not stand for Deputy in St Lawrence for several reasons. Mainly, my wife has found the whole Senatorial thing very stressful and that affects her M.S. so I would be loath to pile more pressure on. Secondly, a Deputy in a country parish is far more part of the community than a town Deputy and, having seen how close Deidre Mezbourian is to seemingly most of the parishioners, I'm not sure if I could be that sociable. I stood for Senator for the Island wide mandate which is necessary for environmental and general social justice policies (and not as a back door into the Deputies elections).

However, former Connetable Bill Morvan was very keen for me to stand in St Lawrence after talking to me at length at the Polling Station (I'm far better if I get more than 3 minutes to put forward my ideas!) and  he even said that he would propose me. That is a truly wonderful endorsement  and gave me hope that my ideas had got through. I will have to think about it.

Congratulations on your posting Montford, tell us, are you going to follow your manifesto or are you going to be doing what others tell you?

I would imagine he could end up like another Geoff Southern, on his own with no real say in anything.

Did anybody watch Geoff Sothern on the CTV news?  Apparently he has failed to get any ministerial role or head of scrutiny position.

He was complaining about us not being a democracy, but the way I see it is that he was challenged and just beaten.

I think from what I've seen on Montfort that he will draw a clear line on matters which are important principles of his manifesto, but be prepared to work with people he does not agree with on all matters at other times (for example, on Parish matters, which encompasses roads, youth crime, the elderly, bus shelters etc).

He has said he will be sharing the St Brelade No 2 monthly surgery with Sean Power, and from what Sean has said there is certainly a lot of agreement on Parish matters.

I am sure the young lad means well, but something tells me that you need to have friends and comrades in the States chamber to get things passed.

And something tells me that from perhaps his behaviour since March, not many establishment people will have much time for him.  I would stick my neck out here and say that he and a few of his friends have perhaps said too much against certain people.  It is like any place of work, if you distance yourself away from people before joining a firm then when you join that link is difficult to mend.

I think we have already seen today that there is a massive divide already and one has power and the other group may as well not be there.

Maybe it really is personal like Geoff Southern now claims, but whose fault is that?

I think it would be still possible for Montfort to build bridges when needed.

After all, Terry Le Sueur has to work with James Reed, having dumped him in favour of Paul Routier. Would you trust someone who acted like that, putting their chums first?

I still think his behaviour in order to get elected hasn't done him any favours with his now colleagues (some of whom he really laid into personally sometimes).

I maybe wrong, but I think the first indications of a kind of divide has been witnessed this week already.

Ozouf, Le Sueur, Walker, Vibert, De Feu literally anybody that he disagreed with.

He was laying into Ozouf a lot at the hustings and he had a friend (and I know his name and blog) who was there with a camcorder all the time.

Whether you agree with this approach it is neither here nor there but I just think behaviour like this is noted and never forgotten, and it sure as hell never got Southern anywhere.

From what I have heard and read it seems that the existing States Members thought that he may have something to offer in the States Chamber. I am just reading in tonights JEP that he received over 40 votes to get him into the Privileges and Procedures Committee so maybe they have forgotten?
