Hi Razz,
The problem here is that Simon Crowcroft and Roy Le Herissier have both stated they will not be candidates.  Stuart Syvret might have a go again, but I doubt he will have the support of the Assembly.
Simon and Roy are talented men. Roy in particular, has exemplary qualifications and I really hope he considers putting his name forward for a Ministerial role.  I do not believe that Ministers need to be Senators.
Electors, States Members and here on PL, we have to realise that our choices for Chief Minister are those outlined in my previous threads.  That is the way things are and it cannot be changed.
Terry Le Sueur, Ben Shenton and Paul Routier are three Jerseymen. All three are associated with excellent social work, charities and indeed fostering. Two are chartered accountants (TLS & BS) and the other (PL)  has a long history of charitable works.  All three have been self-employed.
What do you want ? We are not going to get an Obama. I don't see one.

Terry Le S will be an improvement on F Walker. ( Anyone is ) I think he is honest but
misguided and old fashioned. He wants to be right all the time and that is dangerous if he is looking after our millions. I take part in most of the charity walks like Itex etc and have seen Paul Routier helping out on numerous occasions. He always comes over as very friendly. I have been greatly disappointed with Ben Shenton since he became a Minister. His childish "Lenny Henry" email didn't do him much good
Not did he handle the story of " bird flu pills for all Jersey residents" well

I would note that Terry Le S and Guy de appear to have "fast tracked" signing for the new (but old fashioned) incinerator even though they might know that the new intake of members would prefer a modular design - I was speaking to Phil Rondel on this, and he says they have played safe with a dangerously old technology whereas a modular system would have been far better and could be in place sooner.

Let us hope this is not an indicator of the way things will be done if he is Chief Minister.

Personally, I am a bit peeved that Chief Ministers appear to be picked from people not standing for election, this happened with Frank, it will happen with Terry, and if Philip Ozouf happens along in 3 years time, it will happen again.

I don't think it is good for democracy. The message it sends to the electorate is that voting is a game which has no relation to who is chief minister.

Perhaps what there should be is a vote to restrict the next Chief Minister's term of office to 2 years, so that whoever takes over will have a chance to prove themselves to the electorate.

I can symphathise with Senator-Elect Le Marquand's remarks about the calibre of candidates.

Maybe some of the new intake should consider the position? After all, while in the UK candidates do have some experience of being an MP, it has often been the case in recent years that the Prime Minister (or potential Prime Minister) has in fact had no experience of being in any governmentMinisterial position before - e.g. Harold Wilson, Tony Blair, David Cameron. Isn;t that rather the same?

I wont be able to get there on Friday, as that evening /night I am usually an honorary St John parishioner (hence the info from a Phil Rondel pre-election briefing!)

Listened to Ian Gorst on his 3 years in the States tonight - he was a speaker at an informal meeting of the Amos Group (part of Christian's Together in Jersey which focuses on social issues), which was very interesting (5.45-7.00). I don't know if coming to speak some time in 2009 would interest you?

Hope to touch base with you at one of your meetings in the New Year if you have any back on Monday in January / February.
