Bicycles riding on Pavements
« on: September 19, 2008, 07:50:30 AM »
has anyone else noticed the rise of bicycles being ridden on pavements?
i was brought up to ride in the road, but now being a pedestrian minding my own business on  pavements and being struck by bikes and their riders is has become dangerous and painfull to say the least, I have adopted to carrying a tightly rolled up newspaper rubber banded at each end and hold it in front of me to strike the oncoming cycalists where it hurts and wondered if im breaking the law by protecting myself in this manner?
La Pouqlaye is a favorite of school kids wizzing down on the widened pavement, but its happening all around town with grown ups as well grrrrr

Oh, and another thing .....   :D

Cyclists that go up one way streets.... I can only assume that they are too lazy or too thick to follow the roadsigns. Idiots!

I see loads of cyclists riding along the pavement, every day in town, and it's not just kids.

And they complain about drivers not respecting them on the road.

It's because car-hating cyclo-fundamentalists on the St Helier roads committee have pursued bonkers policies allowing them to cycle up one way streets

I prefer cyclists to stay on the roads. They are easier to hit, especially when they are plugged into their i-pods and can,t hear you approaching.

Hard-hat and lycra V Rangerover with side-steps.(They dont even scuff your paintwork). There is only going to be one winner. ;D ;D ;D

I think I will keep one of those very loud aerosol Ships Air Horns in my carrier bag and blast the unsuspecting cycalist if approaching me when walking on the pavements, i.e. no physical contact :-)

Page 4 JEP today:

54 year old cyclist riding against the one way system at La Pouquelaye is knocked off bike in head on collision. I feel sorry for the driver that hit him, if this was indeed the case.

Thanks JerseySpud I just got the JEP and seen the item,
well it dident surprise me because some Prize TW*T had decided to narrow that road last year for some unknown reason, so the bikes havent got a chance now to escape traffic when  illegally goin the wrong way, and as I mentioned originally are now using the pavement putting me in danger of getting run over as they come down at Warp9! Im thinking the same about that poor driver goin thro all the worry crap its caused cos the lazy bloke could have gone down the other side to Queens rd just as easy.

Hi,

Some cyclists forget that they ARE traffic and should obey the rules of the road. I have seen them cycling up and down King and Queen Street, through the Royal Square, up Hill Street and umpteen one way systems. I have seen some loons doing hairy stuff all over town.

There are also car and vehicle drivers who seem to think that cyclists have no rights on major arterial routes. WRONG !

Cyclists are also traffic !

If the Police started to stop and charge more cyclists for breaking the law then maybe the message would slowly start getting through to them.

If I start to ride on pavements, jump red lights etc on my bike or scooter I'm sure I would get charged.
