There have been many British politicians who started out at a young age - William Gladstone MP at 23 eventually became PM - William Pitt as already mentioned was an MP at 22 but PM at 24 - Henry Bannerman MP at 22 became PM, James Callaghan MP at 23 made it to PM - Churchill was an MP at 26, a bit older than the others - and finally from the US - Bill Clinton (love him or hate him) was a Senator at 23. Which just goes to show, you have to start somewhere and just because you're young, it doesn't mean you can't eventually achieve some good things for your people.

Thank you to everyone who is willing to give Jeremy a chance. So few young people are interested in politics nowadays, we feel it is a shame and maybe if Jeremy is elected and does well, more of them might not feel that Jersey politics are a lost cause and it's not even worth voting because nothing will ever change.

Nellie.  Politicians are there to do a job.  Listen to the people is fine but what happens when you start to tell a tradesman how to do the job.  Yes disaster, huge additional cost, everything falls apart and you need to clear up the mess and start again.  If you get in than this WILL happen to Jersey, except we will not get a second chance.  Listen to the people is fine but we need professionals who will act on facts and not just popular opinion.  No more GST - what about no more tax.  Lets spend our rainy day fund.  Lets double our spending and have a good holiday with our inheritance.  The world has played this game and we have the credit crunch.  Please open your eyes and save something for our children

Nellie,
You are right that all the above were indeed young contenders. The difference is that the general Public can see that the legwork and string pulling is being done by a well intentioned mother. There is no doubt that as a mother you would only want your own son to do well.
I liked Jeremy's speech to start with albeit a little thin, but now knowing that his output is potentially yours, he will certainly NOT be getting my vote.
All of the above names came to power through their own industry and personal acheivements, not as a flunky for mummy. I'm sorry if this seems harsh but it is the picture you paint that is the one that we see.

Sorry Raz - just fell asleep for a mo - must be Sean's Paps I got from Gidders whose on a fizzer cos he's not writing anymore ( something to do with suspension of priviliges- Army stuff, you know how it is Cap'n)
Ok from the top Our Father or PaterNoster, Politicians are there to take instructions from the electorate and carry out Vox Populi in a fashion that has alacrity and effectiveness. How you can accuse a doting Mother of being solely responsible for the future of Jersey's downfall is quite beyond comprehension. It is the electorate who are primarily responsible period. If The electorate vote in a person who is bad ( and blimey cocker we've seen that one before haven't we??) then is is without doubt that they cannot be singularly responsible for the status quo. No single person is going to declare zero GST, Zero taxes and then spend the Rainy Day fund (Except half of that statement I might just have to take back if Tel isn't Frank about his motives with our money if you see what I mean). The majority of motions which are brought into the system are outdated, inefficient and unworkable because of the system itself not because of any potent of individual. No single person can straighten this out because it needs a COMMITTEE ( copywrite on the caps lock Alvin ps love the new topping). This process is known as DISAMBIGUATION. Regarding your Inheritances, spending habits etc, I'm afraid you are on your own there as these are not matters for a political forum.

Paternoster is also an isolated rocky outcrop.

Thanks for doing that one Dylan, good work, tidied up very nicely, hope you had a good sleep.

Would have done it myself work but work got a bit manic for while, the phone went and there was nobody else to pick it up! I had to talk to a person who called themselves, get this... 'a client'.

By the way can your remember which thread we were in when Sean admitted to being on PAPS?
I need that thread man.

Dont worry I got it. It's under Sean Power - States Member?

I just needed to see his admission to being on PAP again as I think it might have some relevance to report him in last night's JEP;

A thief stole strong painkillers from a a car left wide open for ten minutes with the window open outside Tube Sports in Halkett Street, at around 11am yesterday (Monday). Several other military items worth a total of £160 were also taken from a white VW car. A police spokesman said that the owner of the car, an american citizen called GI Gidley, had admitted to leaving the perscription painkiller Prozentanol Alhydrachloride Piazapam, which has the street name of PAP, in his car.

Does anybody know when the police stop filling in their overtime sheets as I need to put a call in to the sarge and confess my suspicions?
