Excellent hypothesis with some very interesting facts boatyboy, especially your last paragraph.

JTM: How do you rate our Chief Minister?

Hmm, well lets see:

Joined the States of Jersey in December 1990 as Deputy of  St Helier No 3 , assumed the office of Senator in 1996, became Chief Minister in 2005, still going strong to this present day.

Has managed to steer his government through some of the most turbulent storms of recent political history, intact and in a climate of economical success.

Has achieved all this and is soon to retire, leaving a legacy of unequalled fiscal prosperity for future generations of politician to enjoy.

As a politician, I don’t think I have words to describe the feelings of admiration that I have for this wonderful man.

I don't rate him because I never voted for him.

There are too many minus points in comparison to plus points.

Connections with the JEP, voted in secretly as a CM, negative approach when interviewed, impossibility for him to relate to the less well off etc etc.

But people who keep on moaning about him really are wasting their time.  He retires in a couple of months time and like Harper should really be forgotten.

JTM, I think its a shame that recent events have eclipsed his many worthy contributions to island life.

And I am sure, on balance, he has done more good than harm.

Any comments?

On a personal note : Each time Mr Walker appears on television hairs on the back of my head stand up. He has "something of the night about him" and perhaps the reason is that when he speaks only his lips move without any emotion showing in other parts of his face. Just watch next time he's is on !
Also he hides his eyes behind coloured lenses in his glasses, something Terry Le Sueur has now copied
As a politician he has sailed too close to the wind too often. There was the Trinity affair, Les Pas Holdings, and the silly way he behaved during interviews during the height of the La Garenne story has done damage to the international reputation of the island. He basically looked stupid !
When he was elected Chief Minister he told the JEP he would change and he carried on just in the same old manner.
In my view all that mattered to him is the fact that he would go down in history as the first ever Chief Minister of Jersey.. Power, Glory, Self importance and all that
There is also no getting away from the fact that he has been the subject of jokes in Jersey for a considerable time. When I go to a dinner, barbecue or just visiting friends or listen to people in the office or pub there are always nasty comments about him and some are said with great hatred.
There simply must be reasons for this
I think he is a prat, never trusted him and cannot wait to see the back of him and replaced by a genuine and respected politician. ( Hopefull there will be more contestants )

Leaders will by virtue of their position be objects of derision.

In a small place like Jersey, much of it is, as my ol' gran used to say, idle tittle tattle.

When I go to a dinner, barbecue or just visiting friends or listen to people in the office or pub there are always nasty comments about him and some are said with great hatred.

What a hoot it must be
