I like the idea of Sarah as Senator also.  She has my vote.

I liked Grouville - there were more locals and fewer groupies.

It gave me a chance to support Tidal Power, which I prefer to windmills.  It just gives plankton a headache instead of chopping birds in two - which windmills do.  It is also more efficient.  Windmills are incredibly inefficient and only any good if you live on a mountain or somewhere consistently windy.  I can't see "in town" windmills being very efficient - top of Cyril Le Marquand House might do - but don't cut the cable to France!

Exactly what work have you been doing to support tidal power?

Why do you think a person needs to live on a mountain to benefit from wind power?

Bird friendly wind turbines exist.

No where on this planet is "consistently windy", nor is there any requirement for continuous wind.  We are connected to a the French power grid which includes grid energy storage, and they even have wind turbines which are visible from Jersey - and not a mountain in sight.

For someone who claims to be in support of tidal power, your knowledge of power generation and supply seems to be very thin.

I do try and keep up with the technology - I read the technical journals which I get from the Institution of Electrical Engineers.  Actually my undergrad degree was in Electrical Engineering-specialising in Power Engineering.
It was more fun - if it didn't work, it failed spectacularly!  Computers just sizzled and died - nothing like as spectacular.

I don't really understand why politicians are expected to have a complete in depth knowledge of everything anyway.  I could not tell you much about up to data on tidal power even though I did alternate forms of energy at degree level 18 years ago.

I also think this subject is way down the list of priorities at the moment.  (At least it is to me) :-\

Clearly, you're a little shaky on wind turbines! The only commercial windmills which are a significant problem to birds are the very old, small, fast turning types like those in the Altamont pass in California. Large slow turning ones are not a problem to birds (although there is an effect on bats). Windmills are not incredibly inefficient and offshore is an even more ideal place to find consistent winds than on mountains. Your suggestion that onshore windmills in Jersey are probably not ideal is closer to the truth.

They don't need in-depth knowledge, but if a politician doesn't even have a basic grasp on the subject, then how will they be able to communicate with the experts, or know when a report given to them is just nonsense?

Some of our politicians and candidates even appear to lack basic literacy skills, yet are on control of large sums of our money!

If they can't be bothered to make the effort, they should not be in the job.

Freddie Cohen still thinks houses need chimneys even though they dont have fire-places. And he,s in charge of planning and environment.

Says it all really.

PS: "Pretend Chimneys", add about £5,000 to the price of building a new house!!
